Aspen
~~~~~~~
Everyone seems to know me here. I've never been treated like this. Like I was popular. I just embrace it and it feels nice. I feel liked and like someone actually liked me.
Scarlet wanders off some where while Sage and I are dancing. After a while I went over to the "bar" to get a bottle of water. I reach into the cooler and pull out one of the blue bottles.
I close the lid when I hear a gasp behind me. I turn around and it is Sage. She has two bottles of a red liquid that are bubbling. She looks unbalanced and her eyes look half closed. She looks a little... drunk.
"Sage are you alright?" I ask stepping toward her.
"I'm fine," she slurs shewing me off. "Is that all you're going to drink?! Water!"
I look down at the bottle and suddenly feel extremely self-conscious.
"Well... yeah. Getting drunk really isn't on my bucket list for 'before I graduate'" I say laughing.
Sage looks at me with a blank expression. "I'm not drunk," she says with a serious look. I laugh and put my water down on the table.
"So if water isn't a good choice, then what is?" I ask her. I am curious to what she was going to say.
She looks around and jabs out one of her hands. "This. This will do."
I look at the red liquid and hesitantly take it from her hands. She takes her open hand and motions for me to drink it. I shrug my shoulders and take a quick sip. It burns the back of my mouth, but has a sweet taste to it.
"What's that face for? It's fabulous!" Yells sage.
"It just burns a little."
"Oh you'll get used to that!" She turns and bounces back toward the crowd. I set the drink down and pick up the water again.
"I saw you do that and I'm not leaving till you drink all of that." I didn't realize that Sage had set down her drink and walked back over to get it.
"Um..."
"Pick up the drink. Now." I'm not going to test her, so I pick it up and chug the rest. It burns the back of my throat so I couldn't talk by the time I was finished.
"There!" Sage says cheerfully and she walks off.
A dizzy feeling over comes me, but I feel an urge to have another one of those drinks.
No Aspen. It's not worth it. I think but my hands are acting before my brain can stop it. I reach in the red cooler and pull out another red drink. I reach behind the table and pull out the bottle opener. When the cap came off of the bottle it made a fizzing sound. I probably haven't drank any thing that does that in five years.
I lift the bottle to my mouth and drink a small amount, then I hear a laugh. It sounds like Scarlet. I look up and there she is with a cup of brown liquid in her hand.
"Wow Aspen. I just can't imagine you doing that. I thought you would drink water the whole time, but... guess I was wrong." she says stepping toward me.
"It's Sage's fault. She gave me the first drink." I reply sitting it down on the table.
"Oh no! Don't stop because of me. I'm just surprised. Drink responsibly," she says raising her glass and walking away.
"I was planning on it," I mumble and took another drink.
"Aspen! Aspen wake up!"
"Yeah the party is almost over!"
I open one eye and see Scarlet and Sage, looking even more intoxicated than before, standing above me. I try to sit up, but a searing pain runs through my head and I scream in pain.
"Keep laying down. You have a nasty cut on the side of your face," Scarlet says while holding a paper towel to my cheek.
I slowly lay back down and sigh.
"What happened?" I ask.
"Oh man! You don't remember?! You had like two drinks then came running out of the bar screaming. I guess your short little body couldn't handle a little alcohol." Sage says slurring her words. "We came running after you. You've been out for like five minutes."
"What did I drink?" I ask.
"A piña colada drink with two extra shots. So if you've never drank before, you can get pretty crazy on it." Scarlet replies.
I roll my eyes and start to get up. I have a massive headache, so it takes me a while. When I am standing up straight I wobble and almost fall backward.
"Careful," Scarlet says.
"I'm fine, but I think I'll go back to the cabin to-"
"I'll take you!!!!" Sage screams.
"No you're drunk," says Scarlet.
Sage goes from a happy drunk to a serious drunk.
"I'm not drunk."
"Yes you are, plus you need to continue revenge on Nathan. So go back to the party, I'll take Aspen."
"Ok!" Sage says happily and skips back to the party.
Scarlet put my arm around her shoulder and helps me to the cabin. I wish I could still be there. I have a feeling something bad is gonna happen.
