Chapter Seven: Run Away

Wyn's P.O.V.

The strange dark matter had slowly began to fade. But that didn't change anything. My sobbing and fright would only make more appear. I had no idea what was happening. I had never been so scared in my life.

Adam and Alesa are gonna hate me now, I thought. They're going to be afraid of me. They're gonna call the government and they're gonna take me away. I'm gonna be tested on and poked. They're probably going to kill me afterwards, too. 'I'm a danger to mankind,' they'll say. 'We've never seen anything like it.'

I knew that staying here would be like offering yourself at a store. Even though I loved Adam and Alesa, they'd never accept me now. The only option I could think of was running away. So that's what I did.

I quickly opened the bedroom window and climbed out. There was a forest behind Adam and Alesa's house. The trees were tall and dead. There was a thin fog drifting through the air. The light gray sky above only added to the atmosphere. It was kind of creepy, but it was my only chance of not getting caught.

Without bothering to close the window, I ran into the forest.

Alesa's P.O.V.

Adam had a blank expression on his face the whole way home.

I could tell he was deep in thought. I had to guide him away from poles and walls every now and then. People whispered about how he seemed so off. He heard, I'm sure, he just didn't bother to answer.

For the first time in a long time, I was somewhat worried about him.

Adam fumbled with the key at first. There was something wrong with him. I had to ask. "What's wrong?" I asked.

He looked up at me as he got the key in the hole. "O-oh, it's nothing."

"Yes it is! Adam, I can tell when you're upset!"

He just stood in silence for a few seconds. "My troubles aren't the issue right now."

Adam opened the door and held it open for me. I frowned, then walked inside. He lightly closed the door behind us.

"I'll put the groceries away," he said.

"Okay. I'll check on Wyn." I said.

He went to open the fridge door. Suddenly, he stopped and felt all over the handle. But he went straight back to that same spot.

"The handle is cold."

"Adam, it's a fridge. Of course it's cold."

"No, no. This part feels colder than the rest of the fridge."

I raised my eyebrow in confusion. "What? What do you mean?"

I put my hand on the part he was touching. It was freezing cold. But the rest of the fridge exterior was a little colder than room temperature. "Weird," I said.

Adam looked behind the handle. His eyes widened. "Alesa, look at this."

I looked at the part he was pointing to and gasped. There was a small, black dot. It didn't look at all natural. I turned around, and noticed something we hadn't realized for some odd reason.

"Adam... Why is there a black puddle on the floor?"

He looked at the puddle in shock. "Does that mean... Wyn!"

We both bolted back to the guest room. One attempt to turn the doorknob told us it was locked. I kicked the door in rage.

"Crap! It's locked!" I muttered.

"Be right back," Adam said. He ran to our room and back. When he came back, he had a screwdriver and one of my bobby pins. He got on one knee and tried to pick the lock.

"Since when can you pick locks?" I asked.

"High school," he answered. "You'd be surprised how useful it is."

"Well, you never told me."

"I don't have to do it that often, so it isn't that much of a big deal."

The door unlocked. He dropped the two objects, and we walked in. I was shocked by what was inside, and he must've been too.

The walls were covered with black vines and darkness, although it was slowly fading. Part of the floor was black with black vines growing out of it. Some thin, black mist was floating through the room.

The curtains were blowing in the wind. The window was open. But there was no Wyn. Which meant one thing; she had to have run away.

"She's gone!" I gasped.

"Saratina was right!" Adam whispered.

I ran over to the window and began climbing out of it. "Where are you going?" Adam asked.

"To find Wyn!"
