Chapter Ten: Almost Dying

Wyn's P.O.V.

"Wyn!" called a familiar voice.

Oh no.

Hesitantly, I looked behind me. Adam and Alesa were running towards me. No! I thought. Stay away from me! Can't you see? I'm dangerous!

I stood up and started running. It was as if the pain in my legs had suddenly faded, and I was able to run fast. Sandrine ran until he was next to me. My heart was pounding like crazy again. What if they were coming to give me away to the F.B.I.?

"Wyn! Come back!" Adam called. I ignored his request and kept running. I didn't even turn around to see how close they were. Sandrine stopped and stood in defense, growling. The sound of Adam and Alesa running stopped. But I didn't.

Alesa's P.O.V.

I stopped once I saw the wolf standing in our way. It snarled and growled. Adam backed away and stood in front of me; as if to defend me.

"Run after Wyn," he whispered to me.

"What? But I can't just-"

"Just go!" he hissed.

I decided not to argue. I ran around him and the wolf as fast as I could. Adam came after. The wolf came after.

This was gonna be fun.

Wyn's P.O.V.

I kept running and running until my feet ached. I looked behind me for one second. Adam, Alesa and Sandrine was running after me in the near distance. My eyes widened. I tried to run faster, but I couldn't.

"Wyn, please!" Alesa cried. "Stop!"

I looked back at the direction I was running. But it was too late. They was a large, gaping ravine only inches away from me. I tried to come to a halt; but the slippery ice only made it worse. I slipped off of the edge, and screamed as loud as I could.

"WYN!" Adam and Alesa both screamed at the same time. Something dug into my foot; like two rows of sharp teeth. I stopped plummeting to my death and dangled above the cavern. A few small rocks came off and flew down below.

I couldn't even hear them hit the ground.

I swallowed hard. Whoever was grabbing my foot pulled me up. I laid on my stomach, gasping for breath. All the pain came back. And now my shoe had holes in it. Not only that, but my foot was bleeding.

I forced myself to sit up and looked at the person- or thing- that saved me. It was none other than Sandrine. He was smiling and his tail was wagging. I grinned.

"Sandrine... You- you saved my life!" I wrapped my arms around him. "Thank you! Thank you so much!"

I scratched behind his ears. He licked my face, causing me to giggle. Adam and Alesa finally made it over. They both looked exhausted. My smiled faded. I stopped hugging Sandrine.

Alesa wrapped her arms around me. "I was so worried about you! Please don't ever run away again!"

Usually, I'd pull away and make a run for it. But after almost dying, it felt nice to have loving arms around me. I hugged back, and held back my tears.

"You don't know?" I asked. "About... me?"

"Well, we know, but..." Adam muttered.

"Adam!" Alesa hissed.

"Sorry."

I began to cry black tears again.

"No no no! Don't cry!" Alesa said.

"B-but I'm a monster..." I sobbed.

"No you're not! We're not afraid!"

"She's not, but I am," Adam said.

"ADAM! SHUT UP! YOU'RE ONLY MAKING IT WORSE!" Alesa scowled.

Adam's mouth formed into a straight line. He had a blank expression on his face. Slowly, he backed away into a tree. Alesa rolled her eyes. She looked back at me, and smiled warmly. I tried to smile back, but my sadness was too much to disguise.

"We won't hurt you," she promised. "Just please come home."

I nodded hesitantly. "As long as Sandrine can come with us."

"Who's Sandrine?"

"The wolf." I motioned toward Sandrine, who was sitting next to me. "H-he saved my life... So can we keep him? Please?"

"Are you crazy?" Adam asked. "It's a wild-"

"ADAM!" Alesa shouted.

"Sorry," he squeaked.

Alesa looked back at me and smiled again. "If you really want to... But he's your responsibility."

"Thank you!" I hugged Alesa.

She hugged me back. "Let's go home."

I tried to stand up, but the pain instantly came back. I fell onto the ground with a thunk. Sandrine whimpered. He waled over to me and nuzzled me. Alesa frowned. Adam came over and picked me up in a bridal style.

"Thank you," I pushed out.

"You're welcome," he said.

We started going back home. Sandrine walked close to Adam. Alesa kept looking around. She looked deep in thought. Adam didn't seem to have any trouble carrying me. I fell asleep in his arms halfway through the forest.
