Chapter 20: The Time Has Come

*Time skip ahead to early April 2023*

Life was going swell for everyone in BTS; Jin continued his second and final year in the military, Taehyung had released his mixtape, everyone else produced singles, Yumi was happy cooking for them, and Yumi and Jungkook were still very close together in their relationship. However, Yumi's grandmother was another story. At the beginning of April, she had been hospitalized because her vitals needed to be monitored daily since the chemo was now tiring her out and the cancer was still consuming her body. The chemo was no longer stopping the spread, only slowing it down. Yoonah's body could no longer sustain the right amount of nutrients and physical strength to continue with the treatment.

Yumi and her mother had been preparing for that since the beginning of the year knowing that any moment with Yoonah could be their last moment with her. Yoonah herself also suspected her time was coming and she mentally prepared herself, Yumi, and her mother for whenever that time would be. Her grandmother's medical insurance covered the costs of her hospitalization so at least it wasn't a financial struggle to take care of her grandmother. Even though Yumi's mom had been taking care of Yoonah all this time since she worked from home now, she was unable to provide everything she needed without the proper medical training which is why the hospitalization was required. One evening, Jungkook and Yumi were hanging out in the living room when Yumi got a call from her mom. She stepped aside to answer it before returning to the living room with a glum expression.

"What's wrong Yumi? Did it happen?" he asked, knowing that any phone call could be the news.

"Fortunately no, but my mom said my grandma just looks so tired of being in the hospital."

"I can imagine it's not fun."

"I just wish my mother and I could afford putting her into my mom's place so she could be comfortable at home but hiring a nurse and installing all the equipment is so expensive and her medical insurance doesn't cover that."

"I'm sorry to hear that Yumi and I'm sorry I can't be of more help."

"It's alright, having you through everything has been helpful and comforting, that's all I can ask for at this point."

*Time skip ahead one week*

Yumi was preparing lunch with Jungkook and she got a call from her mom.

"Hey Jungkook, my mom is calling again. Can you hold the kitchen while I answer?"

"Sure, I'll manage."

Yumi went to the living room and picked up the call.

"Has it happened mom?" Yumi asked, nervously.

"No, not yet but why didn't you tell me you hired a nurse? I thought we couldn't afford it."

"I never hired a nurse."

"Well there's a young lady at my door who is a certified nurse and told me that she was hired to take care of your grandmother but that they needed to install equipment first."

"But I didn't..." she stopped herself and realized what happened, "Mom, I'll call you back."

She hung up the call and walked back to the kitchen. Jungkook was looking at the stove.

"Jungkook..." she said.

"Did it happen?" he asked politely.

"Did you hire a nurse for my grandmother and sent her to my mom's house?"

"Oh that was today? I totally forgot about it. But to answer your question, I didn't do it alone."

"You didn't do it alone? I'm confused."
