"Pregnant?!" Yumi and her mother exclaimed.
"Yes, pregnant. A little over four weeks," Dr. Park informed them.
"But that's not possible! I'm on birth control!" Yumi exclaimed.
"First, you need to stop taking it now that you're pregnant because it will harm the baby. Second, how long have you been taking birth control?"
"I started to take it in February so it's been roughly a month since I started."
"Ok and have you made sure to take it daily?"
"For the most part, I think I forgot a few times because I was still new."
"Then my diagnosis is that you forgot to take it the day before or the day you had sex and that is how you got pregnant. It was just bad timing."
"Well, I'm gonna have to live with the consequences of my actions then. I wasn't expecting to be a mother until later in life, I am only 26."
"I don't really need to monitor you until you're four months pregnant and we can know the baby's gender. After that, I will see you every three weeks until your later months where we'll have to meet more often. Hopefully, the father is in the picture."
"Oh he is, just that...we can't be seen together in public but we'll figure something out."
Dr. Park scheduled her first appointment three months from then so they could see the baby's gender. Yumi's mother was excited and said she would help her through her pregnancy. But, the only thing in Yumi's mind was figuring out how to tell Jin and what he would say. She knew that a pregnancy at that time would impact his career, his view in the media, and her own life too. She was delighted but also afraid of what was to come.
When she arrived back at the dorm, she opened the door slowly as she was still lost in thought. Sitting in the living room was Jungkook enjoying a snack while he watched a bit of the news. He noticed that Yumi had returned and approached the door to greet her.
"Hey Yumi! I heard you went to see a doctor. Are you feeling ok?" he asked.
Yumi stood staring at the floor and didn't say anything. Jungkook closed the door behind her and lightly held onto her shoulders and guided her to have a seat in the living room. Once seated at the couch, he asked her again.
"What did the doctor say? Is it something serious?"
Yumi turned to face Jungkook and was very serious when looking into his eyes.
"I'm pregnant," she shared.
"Woah...you're having a baby?" he asked with his eyes widened.
"I am and I don't know how to tell Jin."
"Well definitely don't tell him how you told me. That's big news!"
"I'm so afraid though...the media has seen me with you and then all of a sudden I'm with Jin and pregnant? People are gonna think I'm a player."
"You shouldn't worry about what others think about you with Jin. What matters is your own truth and reality. You know you're not a player, you know you're in love with Jin, we know we're on good terms. Just focus on what you know."
"Thanks Jungkook. I really needed to hear that."
"Let me help you brainstorm how to tell Jin."
They wrote down some ideas together and picked the one they thought would be the easiest but also the most memorable. They wanted it to be quick too so as to not delay telling him the news. Everything was prepared by the next evening.
