*Time skip ahead to early December 2022*
Jungkook and Yumi had been together for 10 months and were very happy together. Sometimes on Yumi's days off, Jungkook went to hang out with Yumi and her grandmother after her chemotherapy. Now in December, Jin was given most of the Saturday morning before his birthday off from military service to chat with people and receive birthday wishes.
Author's Note: I don't know how the Korean military works with breaks and being allowed to call people or if they can even have their cellphones on them, so this might not be accurate to what happens but just let it happen for my story.
Jin called during breakfast and they shared a meal with him as they wished him a Happy Birthday. They chatted about what they were doing as a group while Jin was gone so they could catch him up on their plans and he could give his input on what was going on. After eating, they all took turns to talk to him individually for about a half hour each. Yumi was the last one to talk to him, given that she cleaned the table, did dishes, made her bed, and did other chores around the house before talking to him. Eventually, everyone finished and she sat in the living room with the laptop in front of her to speak with Jin.
"Hey Yumi," Jin began with a smile, "How's life been?"
"It's been going good, thanks for asking."
"How's your grandma?"
"She's responding well to the chemotherapy, the cancer has stopped spreading."
"I'm glad she's feeling better, please tell her I said hi next time you see her."
"I'll see her tomorrow for her weekly chemo session before we hang out with Jungkook at her and my mom's place."
Jin's smile faded as he remembered that Yumi was now dating Jungkook.
"Oh yeah, I talked to Jungkook first and he was telling me you guys have been official for a while now."
"Yeah 10 months and going strong," she said, a little disappointed. Jin picked up on her mood change.
"Are you guys having problems?"
"No, why would you think that?"
"Well, you sounded kind of sad when you said you've been together for 10 months."
"Oh," Yumi said as she began to fiddle with her fingers from the awkwardness, "I just umm...I was realizing that we've been together for 10 months and that's such a long time and..."
Her words trailed off as she noticed that Jin was attentively listening to her. She got lost in his eyes on the video call.
"And what?" Jin asked.
Yumi snapped herself back to reality.
"And umm...I didn't think we'd make it this long, him and me."
"Why not? If you don't mind me asking, I know things were awkward between us when I left."
"Because of you," she thought to herself. "We both have so much going on in our lives and I thought it would get in the way of our relationship."
"That's totally understandable to feel that way but I'm glad you guys made it work, I'm happy for you," he said and forced a smile.
They changed the topic of conversation to how it was going in the military for Jin and what he had to do while he was there because Yumi didn't know what it was like to enlist in the military since she never had to do it. When they finished, they waved goodbye and hung up the call. Jimin walked into the living room and grabbed his laptop from the table along with the charger. Yumi had a glum expression on her face as she sat on the couch after the call. Jimin set down his items and sat next to her.
"You ok?" he asked her in a gentle tone.
"Jimin, I need advice...about my friend Haneul," she said.
"The guy you used to work with at the restaurant?"
"Yes, him. So Haneul has been dating his girlfriend for a while but before he got with her, he had feelings for another girl too. The first girl went on a long business trip for a couple years so he started to date his current girlfriend. He wanted to end things with his current girlfriend early on when he realized he didn't fully get over the first girl but he didn't leave her so now he's in love with both girls and doesn't know what to do about it."
Jimin stopped to think momentarily and had some questions.
"Why did Haneul stay with his girlfriend if he knew he still liked the other girl?"
"He told me that he did like his girlfriend too, just not as much. He figured he'd get over the first girl eventually but was wrong and now he's in love with them both, like I said."
"And why is he still in love with the first girl?"
"Because he's liked her for a long time and at one point thought she would be...the love of his life. He can't just move on from that."
"And what did you tell him when he asked you for advice?"
Yumi was not expecting to get asked that and made something up.
"I didn't give him advice, I told him I was going to think about it and get back to him."
Jimin stopped to think for a minute in silence as he thought about what advice he would give to Haneul.
"I would tell him that he should stay with his current girlfriend if he truly loves both of them. He's been in the relationship long enough to not want to leave her. He won't see the other girl for a while anyway."
"What about when she comes back?"
"Since he loves her too, he should continue the friendship but not pursue a relationship with her."
Yumi's mind began to run wild and she talked in a panicked tone.
"But what if he can't control himself when she's back? What if he can't contain his feelings? What if he wants them both? Or worse, what if he realizes he loves the first girl more after all?"
Jimin placed his hand on her shoulder to help her calm down and spoke in a relaxed tone.
"Haneul needs to remember who he committed himself to, who he built a relationship with, and who he rejected in the first place."
Yumi took a deep breath before speaking again.
"I will let Haneul know, thanks Jimin."
"You're welcome, Yumi."
Jimin stood up and grabbed his laptop and charger again and began to walk to the hallway to head into his bedroom but turned around before leaving the living room.
"For the record Yumi, I don't blame you for being in love with both of them, but please don't hurt Jungkook. If you do realize you love Jin more when he's back, I ask that you let Jungkook down lightly if that is what you decide."
He then walked away and Yumi was dumbfounded at his comment but also surprised that he picked up on her story of Haneul. She sat and thought about some things before going to Jungkook's room and knocking on his door.
"Hey Yumi, do you..." he said but she cut him off.
She threw herself onto him, pushing him into the room, closed the door behind them, and kissed him deeply. Jungkook pulled back momentarily.
"What's this for?" he asked.
"Just go with it," she told him.
They continued kissing and ended up on Jungkook's bed.
Author's Note: I am not going to write about it but...you know what went down.
