I almost run back out of the door, and I'm about to turn when -
'Edward, shut the door before she escapes!' Yells the same, high-pitched voice.
That must be Alice. That's extremely uncanny of her to predict I might do a runner any moment now.
I decide to hear them out, to listen to what they have to say. This information on the Volturi thing could save me from.. What was it? Being killed by them? Plus, the Cullens might know how to kill an immortal. That would definitely come in handy - no more need for me to hiss and run away everytime I smelled something suspicious.
Edward gently continues to guide me through a large hall, into a room where his family reside.
The room is very modern, sleek and immaculate - there are three vampires sat on the white sofa, while another three are dotted around the room.
Every single one of them has golden coloured eyes. It can't be a abnormality of Edward's - does it run in their family?
I look to a man with blonde hair who is standing in front of a large window which overlooks the Sol Duc river. I feel myself tense as I study him - he is covered in bite marks. Scars disappear after the change - did he obtain them after he became immortal? What could scar granite?
He stands like a soldier, too - can vampires be in the army? I decide to keep my distance from him - Jasper, I think.
I look for Emmett, then - the tall, muscular frame isn't hard to miss. He's stood opposite Jasper, on the other side of the room, in exactly the same position - arms folded, straight back, serious expression.
What's the threat? I wonder, and realise.
Me.
Alice, who is stood behind the couch, bounces over to me and shrieks.
'Oh my God, it's really you!' She hugs me.
I feel strange as she pulls away. I haven't been hugged since before I was attacked.
Alice looks me over. 'Well didn't you scrub up a treat! Though I may have to find you some decent clothes.'
I frown and look down at what I'm wearing. A pair of jeans and a leather jacket. I don't have time for all the crazy fashions people wear these days - lucky for me, jeans never went obsolete.
'Hm, Jasper.' Jasper is by her side in an instant. They must be mates.
'Calm her down, will you? She's still a bit nervous.'
Calm me..? Ah. An envelope of content wraps around me, and if it were possible, I'd want to curl up and sleep.
So Jasper had a gift too. Perhaps he could control emotions or make you feel like you're on weed.
Alice smiles. She's extremely small - she's easily under five foot. She has a short haircut, too - if her face wasn't so beautiful, she might be able to pass off as a young boy.
'So Bella. How's the last eighty years been treating you?'
I give her a small smile. 'Can't complain.'
She laughs, a long trilling laugh that makes me want to join in. 'Oh dear, I'm ever so glad it's you. Now, I assume..'
'Alice,' Edward says, 'she wants to leave after we tell her about the Volturi.'
Alice's face drops. 'Why?' She says, hurt in her voice.
Another blonde male stands up.
'Alice. We told you that these things aren't to be rushed. Bella is capable of making her own decisions.' The blonde vampire holds out his hand as a female joins him. 'Dr Carlisle Cullen, a pleasure to meet you. This is my wife, Esme.'
