Chapter Seven

My room is on the third floor, next to the Cullen's library.

I'm overwhelmed when I see it - it's painted ivory, and the walls are panelled with a brushed oak, with furniture to match. Everything else is white, with the odd splash of dark pink and teal, such as on the cushions and the pattern on the duvet.

There's a oak framed double door leading onto a balcony outside, which Alice goes over to open. She drops the keys on a large desk positioned against the facing wall.

I love it. I love it all.

I stand extremely still as I absorb it. Alice must have chosen the decor - there's no way someone without a psychic ability would be able to tell I liked this kind of thing.

Alice comes in front of me and shows me the adjoining door.

'This is your wardrobe.'

Oh sweet Jesus.

'Look, Alice..'

'It isn't too much! If you expect to get along here.. You need to get over your aversion to clothes.' Alice smiles at me. Jeez. How much else does she know about me?

She points to a large shelf. 'Edward took care of books and music.'

I look at the names of the books. All old English classics. Wow. He must have paid attention to the variety of books I carried in my satchel.

And music chips. I'm guessing CDs went obsolete. I look at the names. A lot of my favourite music. Edward has good taste.

'I'll leave you to settle in.'

And like that, she's gone.

I sit on the edge of the bed. Why have I even got a bed? Vampires don't sleep. It must be for keeping up appearances.

I put my head in my hands. What have I signed up for? Am I going crazy?

I feel a presence in my room, and suddenly Edward is there.

'Are you okay?' He says.

I hesitate. 'I think so.'

I quickly stand up and open the closet.

'This is not okay.'

Edward chuckles. 'Yes, she can be hard to hold back.'

I sigh. 'I wasn't expecting to have a room ready for me.'

Edward makes a sympathetic face. 'We've had it ready since the last time we were here, and we stocked it a few months ago.'

I frown. 'Why?'

'Alice had a prediction that you would decide to join our family. She can still see you, with golden eyes.'

'Really?'

'Yes. But that was only if you decided to join us. Now she sees it very clearly.'

'You can see it too, I assume?'

'Yes.'

I sigh. 'And you really can't read my mind? You weren't just saying it to be.. Uh, polite?'

Edward chuckles. 'No, I really can't.' He frowns. 'It's quite frustrating.'

'How so?' I ask, curious.

'Well, I can hear everyone's thoughts from downstairs. Emmett and Jasper are planning a hunting trip - which you must attend - Carlisle is researching cancer cells, Rosalie is thinking about herself, and Esme and Alice are thinking about you. But then I look at you... And nothing.'

'Just silence?' I say.

Looking regretful, he nods. 'It's so confusing. I look at you... And I want to know what you're thinking.'

He smirks. 'I've never desired that before.'

'I'm sorry.' I say, meaning it. 'But.. Why did Alice have a vision about me anyway?' I sigh. 'I'm nothing special.'

Edward looks at me then, his golden eyes meeting my red.

'You're very modest, Bella.'

I am so glad I don't have any blood to allow me to blush, a trait I was glad to leave behind when I turned immortal.

I make an indifferent face at him and pull out Wuthering Heights.

Edward smiles slightly, and keeps looking at me. 'Bella, I'm not sure if I should tell you this, but-'

'NOOOOOO!' A streak of blue bursts through the door and tackles Edward to the bed.

Alice has him pinned beneath her, shouting at him while he laughs.

'You don't tell her anything!'

'Wait, what?' I say, and they both turn to look at me.

'If there's stuff about me, I need to know it.' I say quietly. I congratulate myself mentally, as I sound quite dangerous.

They've frozen. I can tell they're having another mental conversation - he's reading her thoughts while she's predicting his responses, I assume.

They both stand up straight.

'Bella,' Alice says softly, 'the reason I keep getting visions about you is because someday... I can see you as a wife to Edward.'

I look at them in shock.

I look at the balcony.

And I jump out.
