Jeez, Dad never mentioned her being this much of a diva. Fine. I sigh, and phase back into my wolf form.

Will, says Eli's voice from my left, you can't seriously be considering talking to her! Her eyes - she's no Cullen!

Look, Eli, this girl meant a lot to my dad. I have to know what happened to her - he'd never forgive me if I didn't!

Oh Will, comes Kora's voice, cutting and sarcastic as usual - he's dead. He isn't gonna care what happened to some broad eighty years ago. We should just kill her.

I growl at her. Shut it, you! I aim the thoughts at the nine others looking at me expectantly. I want to know who she is. She's obviously just as confused as we are - there's a hum of protest - I need to find out. For my dad.

Cool and hard, Levi's voice cuts through the buzz of the others. I agree, Will. He looks among the circle. Joshua, Caleb and Doug - you will guard with me as Will talks to the girl. The rest of you will patrol the border and keep an eye out for the Cullens. If she is one of them, she must be new - they will look for her. Quil, if they appear, I want you to be the one who phases. You WILL obey these orders, especially you, Kora. No-one touches her, understood?

I hear Kora's voice grumble quietly - Levi snaps at her.

The wolves scatter - no-one crosses the will of the Alpha.
