Mikasa felt her yearning to see New Asia increase day by day. She felt.....wanted and important. She would always love Eren and Armin, but Armin had his fantastic mind and Eren could shift. Mei had assured her that her Asian heritage was important, more significant than she realized. Now she felt something else in her, a will to survive that came from reasons outside of Eren.
Mei had described in great detail the communal lifestyle that New Asia had. It sounded like they were a tight knit group. Mikasa wondered what it would feel like to be so safe and secure, to be able to utterly rely on someone else to have her back. Eren had made it clear that he was not "her kid brother" and Armin was intelligent and kind, but he lived in an entirely different world because of his intellect.
Mei had taken to sitting with her in the dining hall at mealtimes and regaled them with stories of life in New Asia. Tonight was no different. Armin had requested information on how they trained for their hand to hand combat skills. Before Mei could reply Erwin stood up from his table where he sat with the higher ranking soldiers. "Attention. At the end of this meal, I would like Eren Jaeger, Armin Arlert, and Mikasa Ackerman to see me in my office at the end of the meal."
Mikasa glanced at Mei and saw the young woman's lips curved into a smile. "You guys are in for a treat." She said brightly. "Wait, you know what's going on?" asked Armin. "I have an idea." Mei replied waving an airy hand. At the end of the meal Mei stood up and exited quickly. This was not unusual, she often left without warning. Mikasa, Armin and Eren walked to Commander Erwin's office together. After knocking they were told to enter. Mikasa saw that Levi, Hange, and Mei were already there. " We have already decided. Tomorrow we will be embarking on a mission outside the wall to visit New Asia. This will take around a month. It takes a week to get there and a week to return by horseback." Erwin said.
Mikasa, Armin and Eren saluted. "Yes sir." they replied. After exiting his office Eren gushed excitedly, "Can you believe it? We're going outside the walls." Mikasa could not help but agree. It was exciting. Armin's eyes glowed excitedly as well.
As Mikasa laid on her bunk that night, she could not help but wonder what New Asia would be like. She was too restless to fall asleep. After much tossing and turning she finally slipped into confused and muddled dreams about the future.
Mikasa rose early at the crack of dawn. She made her way into the dining hall to see the others already there. After eating they all went to saddle their horses. Everyone had a traveling pack tied to their saddle. Mei's horse pranced and whinied, obviously eager to be gone. Levi sat astride his horse with the same bored expression he usually wore. When his eyes met Mikasa's her heart seemed to stutter before resuming its normal pace. Why had she just spilled her guts like that? She normally didn't run off at the mouth like that. She had just been overwhelmed by her feelings regarding Eren and strangely intrigued by the expression she had seen in Levi's eyes. It had almost looked...tender? She shook her head, now was not the time to be dwelling on a side to Levi she was fairly sure no one else had seen before. She had left before he had a chance to respond to her rambling.
The gates opened and the seven riders thundered through, a cloud of dust settling in their wake.
Mikasa felt a thrill, a feeling she hadn't felt in a long time. When was the last time she had been genuinely excited for something?
Sorry guys, this was a filler to segue into the next exciting part. New chapter will be up soon!
