A/N: ever so slightly suggestive, we all know what's supposed to happen after a wedding.
The day was something that was supposed to be memorable, a day to cherish. But Mikasa found that it was memorable for entirely different reasons.
Levi announced that they were going to be married in a week. The entire Scouting Legion seemed much more excited than either of the two people involved. To Levi and Mikasa, marriage was simply to make it official on paper. To them, they were already official. Everybody was throwing themselves into preparing for the big day without much input from the couple.
News of humanity's strongest soldiers getting married spread like wildfire. On the third day of preparations, the sound of hoofbeats sounded through the Scouting Legion grounds. Because many were traveling from the inner walls to see the wedding, the wedding was to be held outside in the open. They decided to simply have the wedding in front of headquarters, trees were being hung with lights, garlands of flowers and a small pavilion was being set up where they would exchange their vows.
The drumming of hoofbeats was rare these days. Expeditions had been put on hold for the festivities and their horses were being pampered instead of having to run for their lives. Mikasa had been trying to tell someone decorating that she didn't care what color the flowers were, but she didn't seem to be getting her point across very well. She looked up at the disturbance to see Mei riding towards her, a large package tied to her horse. Mei lept athletically from her steed as it started to slow down, taking the package with her. Throwing her arms around Mikasa exuberantly she seemed all smiles today. "I told you I'd see you get married, didn't I?" she crowed ecstatically. Mikasa's lips quirked up, smiling seemed to be coming more naturally to her these days.
"I missed you," Mikasa murmered. Mei's eyes softened, "I'm sorry, I've been very busy, supernatural stuff, you know." She winked at Mikasa, unphased by her weird activities. Mei shoved the package at Mikasa's hands, "I don't know what you have planned so far, but you're wearing this." Mikasa took the package, wondering what was in it. Dragging Mikasa up to her room, Mei locked the door behind her, "Open it." Mikasa opened the box and pulled out some beautiful blue cloth with swirling purple patterns, along with some golden brown cloth embroidered similarly to the blue cloth. It reminded her of her mother's embroidery.
"It's yours, of course," Mei said. "This is what the Japanese used to wear, beautiful, is it not?" Mikasa fingered the cloth lovingly, it was indeed beautiful. Mei shrugged, "I'll help you put it on for the big day. You can just keep it in your closet if you want." Mikasa carefully folded the silky material and but it neatly in her closet. She hadn't really been thinking about what to wear. Such trivial things had never seemed to matter to her.

The day was here and the courtyard had never looked so beautiful. Trees had been decorated nicely with flowers and lights. Paper lamps with strange characters on them hung everywhere. Mikasa recognized it as Mei's handwriting. A carpet had been rolled out from the pavilion where vows were to be exchanged to the doorway Mikasa would emerge from. The pavilion had flowers literally everywhere. Stuffed in every nook and cranny, the explosion of color bewitched the eyes, their sweet scents melding and fusing seamlessly.
Mikasa was up in her room, standing quite still per Mei's instructions. The beautiful blue dress wrapped around her slender figure, held together by the brown cloth wrapped artfully around her waist. At the moment, Mei was twisting Mikasa's hair up with needles and other accessories Mikasa had never seen before.
Finally, Mei deemed her ready and escorted her down to the doorway. Erwin had offered to do the ceremony for them and Eren was giving her away. Eren stood ready by the door, his jaw dropping when he saw Mikasa. She was a vision. Mei had said she really had nothing she could do to improve Mikasa's face with cosmetics. Her naturally creamy skin was flawless with full lips and soulful dark eyes. With her hair pinned up to show off her smooth, pale neck and graceful jawline Mikasa was quite easily the most gorgeous creature to ever walk through the doors. Her hand rested in the crook of Eren's elbow as she made her way down the aisle. Everyone stood and gasped at the beauty of the bride.
Levi's eyes had widened at the sight of his bride to be. Levi was dressed impeccably in a black suit with a white cravat tied around his throat. His undercut had been neatly combed and parted, the jet black strands gleamed in the dazzling sunshine.
Her breath caught in her throat at his handsome face, but Eren's arm steadied her gently.
Reaching Levi's side, Levi took Mikasa's hand in his as he waited for Erwin to begin. Erwin kept the ceremony simple and sweet. Mikasa's eyes closed as Levi's lips brushed against hers to seal the ceremony. Turning around to face the crowd, Levi led Mikasa to a carriage Erwin had loaned them to take them to a private cabin to spend some time together.
Cheers followed them as they rode away and even though Mikasa knew that they were coming back, she could not help but feel slightly nostalgic. Levi's low voice interrupted her thoughts, "You looked beautiful today." She turned her head to look at him, "Thank you, you as well," she said softly.
Arriving at the cabin, Levi offered his hand to help Mikasa down out of the carriage before swiftly sweeping her up in his arms as he carried her into the cabin. "Levi," she gasped. Levi grinned at her, making her heart pound faster, "It's tradition. Of course, I think traditions are stupid, but this one didn't seem so bad."
Setting her down in the bedroom, he shut the door and had anyone else been present in the cabin, they would not have seen either one of them until late the next morning.
