Back at headquarters, Erwin immediately locked himself in his office, no doubt trying to incorporate the Asian's techniques into their next scouting mission.
Mikasa, Eren, and Armin joined the rest of their classmates on the training field. Levi stepped forward, limping slightly, "Oi, brats, hand to hand combat training today." Everyone paired off, except Mikasa, who usually took down the rest of them with ease. Mei and her crew had drifted along with them, seeming none the worse for wear after slaying dozens of titans. Mei's eyebrow quirked up when she saw that Mikasa did not have a partner. She stepped forward, "I'd like to work with Mikasa, if you don't mind." It was phrased as a suggestion, but Levi felt that she would not take no for an answer.
Mikasa was surprised, but asked, " Can I see you spar first?" Levi cringed internally but to his surprise Mei grinned. " Excellent, a true opponent knows to assess the opposition first." She beckoned one of her men forward and the others grinned. One of the others said in a slight accent, " Mei rarely demonstrates hand to hand combat for us." Mikasa frowned slightly, "Why?" The man shrugged, " It's not her way to flaunt her skill."
Mei faced off against her opponent. He threw a swift jab at her head and she fluidly ducked underneath. She spun gracefully, her heel arcing towards his head. He barely ducked in time. The others scouts stopped and watched in awe as Mei moved in deadly grace. She was extremely flexible and agile, impossibly so. Her partner was all wiry strength, but in the end, Mei was the master. They both moved like water, constantly moving, never stopping. There was no energy wasted, no unecessary movement, it was like watching two storms collide. Suddenly Mei lept into the air, using his extended arm for leverage, looped her leg around his neck, taking him to the ground and gracefully landed in a crouch her hand cradling his head to break his fall. Her men whooped, " Good job, Chang, you actually gave her a challenge for five minutes." Chang, as they now knew his name, grinned, wiping the thin sheen of sweat from his brow. Mei nudged him good naturedly with her elbow and nodded at Mikasa, " I would really love to teach you everything I know, I think you would make an amazing fighter." Levi bristled slightly, Mikasa was already an excellent fighter, she was just blinded by emotions when it came to Jaeger.
Mikasa, on the other hand, seemed intrigued by Mei, absolutely spellbound by a past that had been stolen from her. Levi could not help but feel resentful at how easily Mei seemed to have captured Mikasa's attention.
For days afterwards, Levi rarely saw Mikasa alone, she always seemed to be with the Orientals. Asians, he mentally corrected in his mind. He also saw Eren and Armin with them, but had the feeling they tolerated them because of Mikasa's attachment to them. Slowly but surely, Mei seemed to draw Mikasa deeper and deeper into a world outside the walls and the worse part was that Eren and Armin seemed just as spellbound. Levi grit his teeth. If Eren decided to go with the Asians, Mikasa would leave without looking back.
Humanity would lose some of its greatest assets, Armin's brilliant mind, Eren's shifter abilities, and Mikasa's combat skills. Levi refused to let them go without a fight.
