Moblit was waiting for her outside. They had agreed to take a lunch date, which wasn't really something they hadn't done again before. There were so many times that Hange would tirelessly work or study and Moblit would make sure to remind her or bring her something to eat. But now... now it was official. They were a couple, and nothing felt different about that. Except now she could kiss him, and he could kiss her, and they could both do so much that they hadn't done before. But nothing else felt different.
They were so comfortable around each other. All that familiarity was built into a strong friendship that they had had for years. There was almost nothing that he hated about Hange. Maybe her attitude sometimes. Or maybe how she drove him insane when she doing stupid things like putting herself in danger or get too damn close into the jaws of a titan whilst he'd scream at her not to.
Okay, maybe there were a couple of things- several things that he hated about her. But this wouldn't be a normal relationship if all just seemed perfect. Right? The night that they had spent together- oh, that night... he could never forget it. He might have been drunk. They might have agreed to forget all about it and pretend it never happened, but- oh, that night.
Moblit heard the familiar footsteps approaching from behind and he turned and looked at her. Hange had that playful smile on her face that she always had. Her hands were tucked in the pockets of her opened, green Survey Corps trench coat. Her glasses rested on the bridge of her nose just right, and she had her hair wrapped back just like always.
"You're fifteen minutes late," Moblit teased right away and Hange groaned.
"Oh, don't give me that bullshit, Mobby, I may never accept to go out on a date with you again," Hange growled as she finally approached him.
"Are you forgetting who saved you from being roasted?" Moblit raised an eyebrow.
"Are you forgetting who saved your roasted ass afterwards?" Hange threw back. She had that playful gleam in her eyes even though she was trying her best to act frustrated.
Moblit chuckled. "Fair enough," He offered his hand so that she could wrap her own around it and they walked arm in arm down the street of Trost.
The day was bright. The sky was clear and the streets were filled with the buzzing sound of people chattering, birds singing on top of the trees in the parks. The sound of the river rushing through the midst of the city and the laughter of children as they tossed around their toys filled their ears. Trost was a busy District indeed.
"So where are you taking me?" Hange asked finally breaking the boring silence that fell between them.
Moblit had a smile on his face. It was the kind of smile that she knew should worry her. "You'll see," It was the only, vague answer that he gave her.
Hange's eyes widened and she stopped walking for a moment, pulling her hand away from his own and she pointed an accusing finger at him. "You're not abducting me, are you?!"
Moblit rolled his eyes. "Why would I abduct you?"
"No idea. You're Levi's friend so I should expect nothing less," Hange growled.
"What does that have to do with-" Moblit groaned and cut himself. He knew there was no point trying to kick some sense into his paranoid girlfriend. A hand found his forehead, rubbing gently. "No, I'm not trying to abduct you,"
"Ah, good then," Hange wrapped her arm around his own and they resumed walking. "So, where are you taking me?"
Moblit groaned. "I guess you're not going to let me surprise you," He pulled his free hand up only to show her the basket that he had been holding all along. She couldn't believe she hadn't noticed it. Was he hiding it? Behind his back? Trying to surprise her? "I thought we'd have a picnic," Moblit said and Hange realised she'd never had a picnic with someone before.
