FRANK

In the well-known arms, something pretty unknown laid. The blue eyes of hers shined bright. Her eyes looked just like her mother’s. The little hair on her head seemed like her dad’s original hair colour, and the little smile was just the prettiest thing anyone had ever seen. “She’s beautiful,” I whispered. The sparkling eyes looked smiling at me. “Say hi to dad, Charlotte” she smiled and handed over the little one. “Charlie” I whispered and looked at the little creature in my arms. I was almost speechless. This beautiful little thing was my work. It was my own blood.

The little hand in mine lighted up my heart. The little fingers moving around with mine was incredible, and the silences smile on her face was unbelievable cute. She was perfect. I know no one is perfect, but in a parent eye.. She’s just fucking perfect.

“Thank you, Jack” I smiled and grabbed Charlie’s hand. “You’re welcome.. She was mostly sleeping anyway” he smiled back. “Game” Charlotte said. “Huh, what sweetie?” I said. “TV game” she repeated. I looked at Jack and caught him with the finger in front of his mouth. “So you’re trying to lie to me, Jack?” I said and looked at him. “Liar, Liar!” Charlotte said and pointed at him. I couldn’t hold my laugh anymore. “Relax, I’m not killing you, it’s not her first time.. She has a dad you know” I laughed. “That’s why she won over me twice!” he laughed and tousled her hair. “Oh well” I said and turned, ready to go. “Don’t ‘oh well’ me, the guys will mock me for that for years! A little girl not even two years beat me twice in my favourite game!” he shouted, but I could hear him laugh behind me. “Thank you again, bye Jack” I said and started walk. “No problem! Hope to see you again Charles!” he shouted after us.

The two of them was sleeping on the couch. She was lying on top of him, her head on his chest. Both heads were turned against the TV and all eyes were shut. They were so cute, lying there. Father and Daughter. She was growing, but still she liked her dad as much as she always did. They looked pretty alike too though. You could see they were in family. People we met on the street always said: “She’s really alike her dad, and so pretty!” They were right, with both things. She was pretty. Some guys even said she would become a model when she’s grown up. Me, as a mother, hoped she found something else to do. In my new job, I got to know some models, and they were nothing to look up to. Never happy with what people around did for them, never satisfied. I was sure that Charlotte, with such a great dad and a mom that fixed her life just perfect with time, she would make to get a better job than model. But now, she was just a kid.

“Is she sleeping?” Frank whispered. I nodded with a smile. Slowly I picked her up and kept holding her in my arms. She had become a lot bigger since the first time I hold her like that. It was almost scary, how fast they grew. Soon I would stand there in the door, waving goodbye and watch the little one leave to her first own place. Slowly I carried her into her bedroom. It was weird though. The room we first thought were going to be a guestroom, became a baby room, faster than the wind.

When I came back to the living room, Frank was sleeping again. “Sleepyhead” I said to myself and moved over to the couch. I sat down beside him and leaned my head on his shoulder. Slowly his head fell to mine and I understood that he wasn’t sleeping like I thought. “I love you” he said and kissed the top of my head, leaning back and letting me fall down lying on top of him. I wrapped my arms around him and closed my eyes. “I love you too” I said pulling myself closer to him.
