"Lydia. Lydia !" The sound of someone calling my name and feeling of my shoulders being squeezed brought me out of my apparent deep sleep. As soon as I sat up in my bed I realized a few things. Like the layer of sweat covering my body, my tear soaked face and the very worried look on Alice's face.Looking around the room I realized as usual I was back in my normal life. The real one.. I tried to remind myself but suddenly even I was becoming confused. After last night.. I don't even know what to think anymore.
Last night.. I found out I had miscarried and was actually not only with Milo but engaged.
We were engaged."Lydia? Are you okay?" Alice's voice snapped me out of my spiraling thoughts. I nodded but I wasn't okay.
"Look I know.. it's been crazy lately with this pandemic and your business suffering.." She began, and right then I wanted to fill her in on the rest of my dilemma but I stayed silent. "It's just you've been worrying me. You seem off.. really off."
Do I tell her ?
Risk sounding like a lunatic..Other Alice knows, Alice in your alternate reality accepted it..
"I.. I need to tell you something but you have to promise to hear me out and not call anyone to take me away.."
"That's not giving me any sort of comfort.. but come on. Lets make a cup of coffee and tell me what the hell is happening.."
.......
"Alice.. say something." I quietly urged, my best friend had opened her mouth just to close it numerous times. The growing silence was driving me crazy.
Maybe I'm already crazy?
Honestly seems like the most obvious explanation.."Lydia.. I don't even.. what do you expect me to say to that!"
"That we've been best friends forever and you need to realize right now that I'm a 100% not messing with you right now.. I am freaking out!""You swear? On your life?"
"My life, your life, this friendship.. everything."
"Alright.." Alice took a deep breath, sitting up a little straighter. I watched as she took another long sip from her coffee. "Start over, from the beginning.. So you actually woke up, half naked in bed with Milo Manheim?!""How did I know that's what you were going to focus on.. Anyways.."
We went over it, and over it and over it. Backwards, forwards.. and we've come up with nothing...
A break down and several emotions later and yup still nothing.
"Wow.." Alice mumbled as I wiped at my puffy eyes for the millionth time. "What?"
"Well.. weird parallel universe and heavy trauma aside I just realized something." I looked at her waiting for a response only for her to roll her eyes as if to say really.
Of course I knew exactly where she was going with this..."You said I love you to someone? ! We aren't just going to ignore that!"
"I.. didn't even.." I couldn't even finish the sentence. I said it and I meant it.
Every ounce of it.. and it was scaring the absolute shit out of me."What do I even do?" Alice opened her mouth only to close it. A lot of that happening today.
"Maybe it's the universes way of putting you with your soulmate, you know 'cause your stubborn ass was never going to like go find him or even give him a chance.." As Alice said the words it sounded ridiculous yet was also the only thing that made a bit of sense.
"...Do....you think.. that might actually be it?"
