Chapter 15: "Happy Birthday"

The video started.
Someone was being dragged by Lucas. I didn't know who it was but I had to assume it was the cameraman from the first vhs we ever watched. Lucas was telling him that the goal was to light the candle and put it onto the birthday cake.
I watched intensely as the man walked around getting the clues he needed in order to be able to get a valve to shut off the water.
'Lucas is a sick man'
I thought as I stared at the man get the word 'loser' carved into his arm by the mechanical clown.
'Fuck clowns'
I realised how this house was just everything I hated mixed into one.
The man put the candle into the cake. The cake exploded and set him on fire. The next two minutes of the video was of the man screaming out in pain.
I couldn't look at it because the screams made my heart rate increase and my eyes start to lightly water.
"Jesus" Ethan breathed out.
He saw me turned away with tears in my eyes and automatically grabbed onto me, holding me close.
"I shouldn't have dragged you into this y/n"
"No...no I'm glad you did....in some sense. If I wasn't here you would probably be doing something stupid" I laughed quietly wiping me eyes.
I hated to cry I front of Ethan, especially in a moment like this, but this house was too much. We could never catch a break and I was more then ready for this nightmare to be over.
Before we left for the "party" we fixed the second shotgun so Ethan could have one of his own.

We walked into a neon room that said 'Let's Play' on the wall and floor. I opened the door and there was a tv. Ethan walked to the seat and sat on it while I stood to the side.
Lucas popped up onto the screen.
"Ethan. Y/n. Eeeeethan. Ethan, Y/n – hold on, hold on, hold on. I got something for you two."
He holds up the D-series head to the screen.
"Looky, looky what I got. You now what this is for? You know what Zoe wants to do with this? She thinks it's special. No, Ethan, y/n, that ain't special. This – this right here is special."
He pulled out pliers and started to rip out his nails.
"You see, Ethan, y/n, not everybody wants to turn back the clock. What? What, Eveline? I'm just trying to show them. I'm just trying to show them that not everybody wants to go back to how things were. Zoe's a stupid bitch! She doesn't understand that I don't wanna go back to how things were before my father found y'all. Not everybody wants to turn back the clock. So – so, Ethan. Y/n? You can, uh – you can, um, crawl around underneath that filthy, rotten house all you want looking for them ingredients, but you ain't gonna find a goddamn thing. You wanna make that serum? Ooh, baby. You're gonna have to come through me. You hear? Well, come on, guys. What do you guys say?"
Then the tv exploded hitting Ethan with some glass.
"Fuck"
"Ethan are you ok!?"
He stood up and looked at me. I grabbed him and moved him to a better lighting looking to see if there was any glass stuck in him.
I didn't see any so I slowly let go of him and moved to the door.
There was a explosive so I shot it.
"Ooo, you've got a good eye"
"Shut the hell up Lucas" I yelled.
He probably couldn't hear me but I didn't care.
Ethan then broke a crate.
"What do you got against crates, Ethan? Careful, now – they bite back. Guess I'm gonna have to step up my game"
'Great'
We continued moving with caution shooting crates now and moving around the wires of the explosives.

We go to a door and Lucas ran up to it.
"I know – fucking passwords, right? Why don't you try 0814. No-no-no-no-no! 0621. No-no-no-no-no! It's 0514. Well, come on. Take a chance. You never know."
I tried putting in the numbers but they didn't work. We then heard a click noise.
"Tick tock, tick tock."
I looked up and saw a trap in the right corner. I quickly grabbed Ethan by the shirt pulling him from the door.
The trap swung down from the right to the left and got caught in the ceiling.
'Good thing it was a slow trap'
We turned back and walked through the halls to find the code.

We were currently in a barn but turned around running out when some goopies came. I had another brilliant plan.
We crouched under an explosive that we didn't shoot and waited for the goopies to come. They walked toward us and exploded.
"HA take that you ugly ass monster!"
Ethan grabbed my hand and guided me back to the barn....not like I needed it though since it was right there but it was ok I liked holding his hand.
We walked around getting ammo and all the good shit when I saw a battery. I went over to the thing that needed it and put it in. I walked back a bit and it exploded.
"Great"
I threw my hands up in the air as the lights started to turn blue and flash.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the barn fight! Keep it clean, lady and gentlemen – we have rules"
"Fuck you too" Ethan and I yelled together.
"It's how you deal with hardships in life that makes you a man, y/n and Ethan!"
Then the elevator opened with a GIANT goopie coming out.
"Oh shi-"
It then started to throw up acid.
"NO"
I ran trying to doge it as Ethan shot it with his shotgun and when I stoped moving I did the same.
"Oh, damn, that's kinda smart. Got to say, I'm impressed. Not only are you both still alive, you both have all your fingers and toes"
We continued shooting and soon the head exploded and it fell to the ground.
Once it fell it exploded.
"Fat man down, fat man down. Meh – he was never my favorite anyways"
We went onto the elevator that it came out of and went up. We walked through the hall and went into a room with a burnt body.
"Oh no" I whispered.
It was the person from the video that we watched earlier.
I walked up to him and grabbed the note that was pinned to his chest.
"1408
You're next."

I put in the pin but Lucas yelled at us.
"That shit you're carrying...get rid of it"
We sighed and threw everything into the green box. We then walked into the room.
The door shut behind us and Lucas appeared telling us to have fun.
Then he was on a speaker
"Alright, what do you say we play a little game? All you gotta do is light the candle and put it on the cake"
"Kiss my ass" Ethan exclaimed and I kind of laughed at it.
"Ethan, language. There are children in the building – somewhere – I think. I'm not sure anymore"
"What the fuck" I whispered but continued to walk around.
It was just like the video so when Ethan grabbed the candle and the lights went on I went to the door with the ballons.
We got in and I put in the code 'loser'. It opened and I grabbed the valve. I turned off the water and Ethan put in the candle. The cake exploded sending me and Ethan back.
"Motherfucker! You're supposed to die! That was supposed to be for you, god damn it!"
He then threw in a bomb. Ethan grabbed it and pulled part of the wall off throwing the bomb into the hole. We ran out of the room waiting for it to go off.
Ethan wrapped around me to shield me from the noise and shrapnel (if any were to come through the doorway).
Once it exploded we walked through the hole in the wall. There was a chair spinning like someone ran out and a few tv screens.
"Mia? Mia. Mia!"
'Hopefully she's fine so we didn't come all this way for nothing'
"She's alive"
"Who are you? Where are you?" I asked.
"We're just beyond the pier outside that room – hurry!"
Then Lucas appeared yet again.
"Well now, Ethan! Y/n!"
"The fuck do you want?!"
I grabbed Ethan's hand to calm him down a little.
"You two... dead! Guess that's not in the cards. Not yet"
"Lucky us. Look, unless you have any more surprises up your sleeve, I suggest you–"
"Now that would be tellin', Ethan. And I don't do spoilers"
The he disappeared.
"Dick"
I sighed and walked to the door.
'This better be well worth it in the end...I mean I know I have Ethan now but for gods sake he could have told me he loved me at home'
I sighed trapped in my thoughts of what would happen when this all finished. What would happen with Mia...and more importantly what would happen with Ethan and I?
