Friday was coming closer, and my anxiety increased with every day that had passed. I still didn't know what the task would be, and I also hadn't improved during practice yet. This made my chances of winning against the other volunteer pretty low.

After potions class history was the next thing on our schedule. As the content of this class wasn't variable, we had it together with the Vipers. I sank down on my chair next to Ali, listening to her talking about how done she was with this trimester. I couldn't agree more, as I was a nervous wrack by now.

The Vipers entered the classroom, and my gaze immediately met Draco's as he came into the room and sat down on his chair. Whenever I looked at him, I could feel my heart slightly jump. His eyes fixed mine, before he tilted his head, talking to a guy next to him.

I recollected myself, as my eyes wandered across the classroom. Every single chair was taken, except for one. Tom wasn't here. I immediately felt panic shoot through my body as I hectically checked on the others. No one seemed to notice or be bothered by his absence.

I dug my nails into the wooden table in front of me until my knuckles turned white, as Alison noticed my weird behaviour.

"Damn, are you ok, darling?"

I shivered with fear, my gaze flickering between Alison and Tom's empty seat as I bit my lip so hard that it hurt.

"He's not here." I whispered, panic filling my eyes. "Alison, he's not coming."

Ali was just about to soothe my trembling hand as she leaned towards me and opened her mouth, when she froze with her eyes glued towards the door.

I immediately turned around, looking for what she saw when I found him. Tom was entering the classroom, his face littered with red scratches. My eyes wandered down to his neck and my stomach turned as I saw it.

A dark purple bruise went all around his throat, like he had been strangled with a rope. The wounds were recent, as small drops of blood were covering his scratches.

His facial expression was filled with pain, his lips forming a thin line while his eyes seemed gloomy. My chest twitched at what I saw in front of me. Knowing that this was my fault, sent a piercing pain through my body. He had been so good to me and this was his reward?

I wondered if he even knew why he got attacked like that or if it had caught him out of nowhere. After time had stopped for me for a moment, I realized how much I was staring at him, and so did Ali as she cleared her throat.

I slowly turned back around, glaring at the table in front of me with widened eyes. This was all my fault. I felt Ali's hand on mine, reassuring me.

Class went over, while I was still thinking about Tom. I gathered my things in blankness, as I noticed Draco cued me to meet him as he nodded into my direction with raised brows. I told Ali she could go ahead, saying I needed a minute to gather myself. She nodded understandingly as I waited for the others to leave the room as well.

Draco came over to me, observing my movements narrowly.

"Are you ok?"

I looked up at him, not knowing if the version of him I saw in front of my eyes yesterday had been him or just my imagination. His eyes were so trusting that I felt like I could tell him anything. I was weak for him in any way possible. But still, there was a part of me that wanted to protect Tom and I didn't know if telling him would help with that.

"Yes, I'm fine."

He made another step towards me, cupping my chin with his fingers.

"Are you sure?"
