I woke up with a disquieting feeling in my stomach. The thought of today's task was gnawing at my confidence. There was no way I could win against a Viper since I really wasn't prepared well. I perused the tips Ali had given me in my head, hoping that one of the spells we'd practiced would help me this afternoon.

I got out of the bed and went to our bathroom, splashing the cold water into my face to wake my reflexes. The water was dripping down my chin as I looked up into the mirror and observed my features closely. My hand drew over my neck, stopping at the exact point Draco had kissed me. It was like his lips had left a mark on my skin, reminding me of his scent and taste.

I brushed my hair and freshened up, leaving the bathroom for first period. Alison was getting up as well and we left together.

My mind was still spinning around the task I'd have to accomplish when class started. Professor Slughorn went on about potions while my mind was somewhere else completely. I was so nervous that it was impossible for me to focus.

Friday 15:00

Theo and I made our way up to the podium, waiting for Snape to start the ceremony. My knees were trembling and I my eyes flew over to the Viper's, nervous to find out who my opponent would be.

I looked over to Alison, hoping her sight would calm me down or give me a bit more confidence, but the shocked look on her face just unsettled me. I gave her a questioning look and she rose her finger, pointing it to the left. My eyes followed her finger and my head slowly moved into the pointed direction, when I saw what she meant.

Two Vipers came forward and approached the podium, both with a hungry and confident expression on their faces.

I knew that one guy from self-defence class as I had to wrestle him once. He had punched me so hard that I had to stay in the hospital wing for three days, he really wasn't a reluctant kind of person. He was tall and his dangerous jawbones reminded me of Marcus Flint a bit.

The other guy was no other than Tom. My heart skipped as I realized that I would have to fight one of them, knowing that they both were way out of my league. Tom had destroyed me twice in Dark Arts class and the experience he had with spells and curses was stunning.

My knees trembled even harder now, and my palms started sweating. Snape approached the podium and the ceremony started.

"Good afternoon, students." Headmaster Snape's cold voice filled the room. "Today our volunteers will demonstrate a very important skill of the Dark Arts. This discipline requires full concentration and commitment." He spoke to the crowd in front of him, before turning around to us volunteers, pulling up his sleeves.

"Avery and l/n. You're up first."

Fuck. Once again it was like Snape could sense what was going on in my private life. Tom and I both took a step forward and positioned ourselves in front of each other.

"The rules are simple. You will try to enter your opponent's mind by using occlumency. The first points go to the one who succeeds faster. Now, if the other is able to seal the mind by resisting or breaks the connection with a spell or curse, he or she will be rewarded with points as well."

My eyes flew from Snape's to Tom's, and I observed him closely. His eyes were dark and his facial expression eager, I was convinced that he would be way better at occlumency than I was.

I noticed that the bruise on his throat was still visible while he swallowed, his eyes fixed on mine. We both raised our wands, ready for Snape to give us a signal.

"3...2....1... now."

We were both slightly leaning forward, locking our eyes with the person in front of us. His expression was emotionless, like he didn't feel anything looking into my eyes. His eyes were dark and cold, boring into mine without hesitation. His jawline was sharp as he clenched his teeth, not giving in the slightest bit.
