POV HANGE ZOE
The thumping of my heart filled my ears as I burst through the front door, nearly knocking the old piece of wood off of its hinges in my rush. The floor creaked as I walked briskly across it.
[Y/N] was shot. She had been injured and I wasn't there to help. I knew that going back to Trost would be risky, yet I didn't say anything. I kept quiet for once in my life, and this is the result.
How could I leave things like that? What if she had died- or is going to die? I shivered and grew nauseous at the thought. Moblit's footsteps scurried after me, and his panicked voice followed as well.
"Section Commander! You're going to hurt yourself!" He exclaimed.
"Where is she?! LEVI?!" I yelled, clenching my jaw and throwing my jacket to the floor. Despite Armin's careful explanation and reassurance, I knew what an injury from a bullet could entail.
"Hange! Please slow down! It isn't as bad as you're making it out to be!" Armin hurried inside a few seconds later, his features defined by the bright torches on the wall.
Ignoring the warnings from the two, I kicked down the next door I saw, this time revealing Jean and Mikasa sat around a wooden dining table.
"HANGE!!" Moblit yelled. The boy looked at me with wide eyes, and the girl sported a stoic expression, looking right at me.
"She's in that room," Mikasa pointed to her left, gesturing to yet another godforsaken door, "with Sasha."
I ran toward the entrance, throwing open the door and ignoring the way it slammed against the wall, breaking off in small chips of rotted wood and sending them scattered among the floor. Yet my urgency faltered as I took in the sight before me.
[Y/N] was sitting upright on an old cot, covered in a mix of dark and light bruises from her face to her feet. She had a brown rag wrapped around her shoulder down to her arm and was still wearing her bloodied uniform. Sasha turned around at my sudden appearance.
I walked over slowly, registering a sudden need to be more cautious due to the extra pair of eyes in the room, even though every fiber of my body was screaming to get as close as possible to the girl. To wrap her up and never let her go. The brunette looked back at [Y/N] and was met with a silent, sheepish nod.
Sasha got up, walking past me with a tense expression, "I'll be back with a new rag and bucket in a few, Sugar," she said and shut the door on the way out.
Once I was sure the food-loving cadet was gone, I let instinct take over, rushing forward and throwing my arms around [Y/N] as gingerly as possible. She let out a small grunt at the impact.
"What were you thinking?!" I shouted into her neck, causing my voice to come out as muffled and quieter. I buried my face deep into her skin, knowing I'd face the consequences later.
"Fuck, Hange, you're going to rip the stitches open-" she breathed, but I felt her good arm wrap around my waist hesitantly, pulling me in closer. Relief washed over my body, and I almost collapsed at the gesture.
"Sorry... sorry," I mumbled, lying through my teeth. The stitches could be fixed, and the last thing I'd ever be sorry for was my itch to be close to her.
The warmth of her body alone felt like it could keep me alive forever, like a remedy for my buzzing mind. Her touch was driving me crazy within moments as well, and it felt like her fingers were burning through my shirt and into my skin.
After a few more seconds she pulled away, and I felt my stomach drop as I sat down diagonally to her. I studied her features carefully, anger rising in my chest at the thought of her getting shot. The girl stared back at me with an almost pensive expression, and I took a deep breath.
