Beads of body moisture dripped down my head, as my fingers fumbled with the bracelet in the process. I was assigned to make more bracelets for the community that will be given out in the future. Instead, I decided to design one specifically for my daughter. She means the world to me and I made her a promise.
I promised to help her find her soulmate, and I intend to keep that promise. I went deeper into her DNA code, seeing if there's anything that matches up with anyone else's. The computer beeped, signaling that it's found a match. Excitement shuddered within me, but only for a moment.
I was completely pensive, tension and anxiety surging through me. They're going to kill me for acting so selfish. My eyes flicker to the corner, finding the name of the person who matches. Levi Ackerman. I shrug, waving it off. As long as he's meant for her, then I'm fine with it.
I just hope she doesn't end up with the wrong person. My head jerked to the side, eyeing the neon green strip in the wall.
Crap. I really hope they're not watching right now.
"Dr. Night, stop what you're doing." A computerized female voice booms through the room.
My eyes remained focused on the computer, I was determined to complete this bracelet.
"Why should I?" I inquire boldly.
"Because it's wrong, Dr. Night. You are acting out of selfishness, and are not considering others."
"Oh, I'm selfish because I'm trying to make my daughter have a better future? How is that not considering others? My daughter is considered in this." I point out.
"Dr. Night, if you do not comprehend with your orders, we will have to resort to a more drastic matter." It warns.
I find myself smiling as I finish the last touches on the bracelet.
"Dr. Night," the voice says, but it receives no response. I rip off a tab of paper, scribbling down words on it, then wrapping it around the barrier of the bracelet.
"Dr. Night, if you don't respond, you leave us no choice."
"No, I will not comply with your wishes. My daughter needs the right man, and I will not let you stop me."
"I see, it seems you have made your choice then."
A hissing sound echoes in my ear as I jerk my head behind me, seeing fog rise out of the tiny pores in the wall.
Crap.
I start to panic, knowing what it is, and that I needed to act fast. Remembering the secret compartment I've discovered yesterday, I quickly open it, shoving the finished bracelet inside then letting it close.
I start to cough as the fumes become more intense, fogging up the room, along with my vision. My feet stumble over to the doorway, every fiber in my being fighting for survival, to make it out of this mess.
My hands grip the bar to push it open, but when I make an effort, the door wouldn't budge in the slightest.
I back up, glaring at the green stripe of light. "Why won't this door unlock?!" I shout.
"You've made your choice, and you wouldn't stop working on a bracelet for your own daughter. You were cheating the system, you went against our rules, and that can't go unpunished." The voice explains.
"NO!" I shout, running over to the door.
My leg launches a kick at the door, but it won't bust down. Then my fists give it a try, endlessly banging against the glass pane, not even making a single crack. The fog is now to the brim of the room, and I can barely see my own hand. A single tear drips down my face, leaving a streak in its path.
