With his body colliding into the earth, my heart fell into the pit of my stomach.
I felt like breathing wasn't possible.
The gap between the ledge that Ymir and I were on, and the ground that Levi was now lying against wasn't very high. Still, there was a fear for him in my heart that also clouded all over my head that he was already dead.
Ymir was positioned near me, her eyes staring intently down at the short-male's body sprawled out against the grass, changing its colorful green to a sour-brown due to the blood loss that is emitting from his bullet wound.
Every nerve in my body was screaming to get over to him, to see if he'll at least make it. In fact, my legs had a mind of their own, running back down the ledge that we fought our way to get on. Before I could descend down any further, a tight grip seized my arm, causing my eyes to shoot up at who was holding onto me so tightly.
It turned out to be no other than Ymir of course.
"I know you really want to save him, but you can't. We have to go." She states, her voice ever so slightly hinting with empathy. Her eyes definitely gave that emotion away. With her fingers still attached around my arm, I reluctantly cast my eyes back down to where he was.
There he was, sprawled against the earth, eyes closed -- almost seeming peaceful.
It's either he was dead or unconscious. The thought of him being dead was too much to bear, so I forced that image out of my head.
Suddenly, my gaze hardened at her.
"If it was Historia, you would do the same for her." I bite back.
An irritated sigh passes Ymir's lips, as she drooped her head a bit.
"Ebony-"
"No," I spit, the words sounding bitter on my tongue as I wrenched my arm free of her grasp. "You wouldn't give a damn if your freedom was on the line. You would want to be with the person you love." I point out - hooks immediately shooting out of my gear, the moment my words finish.
"Ebony!" She calls, her voice sharp against the drums in my ears.
Once the earth kissed my soles, I sprawled immediately into a sloppy jog towards an unconscious Levi.
Well, I'm hoping he's unconscious, and not any worse.
Whirring sounds stir up behind me, followed by a pair of thudding footsteps. "Ebony, get back here! You'll be arrested!" Ymir urges through a hiss.
"I have to check on him!" I shout back, not bothering once to throw my eyes in her direction.
My knees meet with the earth, the grass soaking into my pants as my knees barely touch his ribs. "Levi?..." I croak out, my eyes already starting to glisten with tears at the sight of him.
My hand gently raises to his face, cupping the side of his cheek in a gentle manner.
"Ebony! We have to go!" Ymir yells, nearly straining her vocal cords, urgently waving me over with a motion of her hand.
Turning my focus back to Levi, tears start to emit from my sockets, staining my features.
"I love you, okay? Please try to make it. For me..." I mumble, inserting a quick kiss on his head and then an even quicker one to his lips. With one last efforting squeeze in his limb fingertips, I rise to my feet and follow after Ymir, both of us engaging in a full-on sprint.

"Okay, where do we go now? Have any ideas?" Ymir asks, once we were able to stick ourselves inside a temporary spot for hiding, at the moment.
