Levi had caught me by surprise, wanting to walk back together to school. On the way there, we managed to tell each other some things about ourselves -- although I feel like Levi knows a little more about me than I do about him. I guess he's even more of a locked chest than I am.

As much as we both had a mutual urge to ditch school and forget about it for the rest day, we couldn't. Neither of us could.

It would induce a large amount of pressure on both of us, mainly because we were both now bonded. As part of living in the society we were born into and having to be accustomed to their rules, it's required of us that we now always uphold our soulmate.

Heck, we now have to live with our soulmates for the rest of our lives.

I mean, well, they are the ones we'll be married to in the future, so in a way, I see the logic but that doesn't mean I don't hate it either. I just can't believe I'm gonna have to marry Eren, of all people. He wasn't quite who I'd picture myself being bonded to, and I'm still not quite seeing the picture.

Like usual, when we got back, Levi and I headed our separate ways. I passed by Petra sauntering over to Levi in an anguished manner.

"Where were you?! I was worried sick! Why'd you leave me?" She whines, her high-pitched tone scratching my ears.

I discreetly roll my eyes at her complaining, and just now eye Eren meeting up with me.

His head jerks over to Levi, "so, looks like you found him." He states, followed by my nod.

"Yep, I did." I confirm.

"So why'd he run away?" Eren asks.

"He doesn't like that he got bonded with Petra. He hates her," I slightly chuckle.

"Ah," Eren nods. "Makes sense," and a sly smirk sprouts on his face.

Eren was informed by me how I promised my mom that I would introduce my soulmate to her. Not minding at all, he agreed to stop by my mom's house.

"Hey Mom," I greet, as I waltz in.

She steps out from the kitchen, running a towel through her hands.

"Oh, you're back! How was it?" She asks.

I shrug, "it was fine. Isabel was able to find her soulmate, and I found mine." I reply, my eyes not really meeting hers.

She stops in the middle of her stride, brows furrowed, her index finger gesturing between Eren and me.

"Wait, are you and Eren soulmates?" She drawls out, her brows lifting up her head.

Eren and I cast eyes at one another, fumbling for words. I guess there's no other way than to put it bluntly.

"Yes," I answer, slightly exhaling deeply.

Her lips pursue, as she flickers her brows. The way she does when she's impressed or in approval.

Oh no.

"Who knew that you two would end up together?" The corner of her mouth curls. "I approve of it. Honestly, Ebony, I thought you'd end up with that guy you recently met, but who you apparently hate. I guess I was wrong. That just shows you've got to expect the unexpected."

On the effect of feeling uneasy, I bark out a laugh, plastering a forced smile.

"Yeah, who knew?" I chuckle, trying to ease the tension that's suffocating me.
