Vara's parents were the perfect Zolarians. Her mother's photos were used to advertise "the perfect True Zolarian." She still sees her mother's face on posters and billboards. Bright blue eyes, glossy, pale blonde hair, even, fair skin, long legs, and a grand height of five foot seven. Vara didn't exactly love the large image of her mother's perfect face plastered onto every surface imaginable, but she never took the time to properly look. At least not anymore.

When she was delivered to the village as a child, the village leader immediately took her in. Vara still asks her why, but only gets the same bullshit answer. "I saw potential in you, Vara. The most bright, glowing potential I have ever seen in my 574 years of life." Vara didn't believe it. Hell, she even to such lengths as getting into legal trouble to prove the village leader wrong. It didn't work.

When Vara turned sixteen, she entered the southern hemisphere without permission. That earned her a stun bullet in her shoulder and an angry lecture from the village leader. That was one hell of a birthday for her.

When Vara finally turned eighteen, she was eligible to collect supplies from the city. The village leader let her go, and Vara returned with blood on her clothes and a line of unconscious soldiers behind her. The closest thing the village got to an explanation was, "People in the city were looking at me weird. I stopped them." And the soldiers? That was just for fun.

Although Vara had a somewhat violent record, the soldiers complied when she asked for a new bike for transporting supplies. Giver her track record, no Zolarian would be crazy enough to defy her. So now Vara is twenty-three years old and has become the designated traveler of the village. The government even made her a special mask for her trips to the city. All Outcast masks were marked with the letter O in Zolarian, but hers had a special symbol all around the edge. It stood for 'Do Not Interact.'

The Zolarians took the warning seriously, and Vara adapted quickly. She was often off collecting supplies for days at a time, with no talking. Soon enough, she didn't see the point of it and retired it completely. She stayed silent unless there was an emergency or the village needed her.

Although they never really seem to anymore.
