"When it hurts observe, life is trying to teach you something"

"Hey have we got any tins of beans left?"

"Nope sorry buddy, we've only got a couple granola bars left. Hopefully we can go hunting today, find something good." I replied smiling down at my smaller brother grabbing a granola bar from my bag. Chucking it to him, I Watched his face light up from the smallest amount of food at that made my heart drop, I never wanted to put him in a situation like this, but this is the world now. Fighting for survival.

I've always tried to keep my spirits high around Aiden he was only 12. So small, fragile and innocent, the world did him wrong when it all turned to shit. So different from myself yet so similar at the same time. He was always so positive, kind to anyone who threw him one smile. However, we are alike in some aspects we would both go to harmful lengths to protect each other, we both knew that. He's all I have left, I need him.

We'd both been trudging through endless amounts of leaves and twigs with the Georgia sun beating down on us was no avail.

Irritable, thirsty, hungry, tired.

That's what life consisted of these days. Luxury now long gone, the new luxurious life was now being able to find an abandoned house without the roof caving in or finding ammo, guns, or food that wasn't stale. Literally anything to survive.

The only thing I wished for Aiden was for him not to turn out like me. He had to be better.

"Keep low, I think I see something" Aiden told me.

I lowered myself to his level so I could try see what he could without bringing too much attention to ourselves.

"Human, dead or animal?" I asked already grabbing a bow from my quiver, loading it and aiming it out in front of us

"Really Harlow?" He sniggered.

Now I was genuinely confused what was this kid playing at I'm trying to keep him safe and he's laughing his ass of as if he's just watched the wolf of Wall Street for the first time.

I lowered my bow containing myself from shooting him in the ass then raised my eyebrow, interrogating him with my eyes for a few seconds to shut him up.

"It's just you said we'd come out here to hunt. We're hunting and when I say I see something you look like you're about to go all ninja turtle on someone's ass." He laughed.

"Language! I said don't be like me. Dumbass."

"Such a hypocrite." Aiden sniggered, shaking his head.
