"When people see good they expect good and I don't want to live up to anyone's expectations."
-Damon Salvatore

I'm back in the woods after a two-day break, but this time I'm accompanied by the other Dixon. The brothers were similar in some ways, but yet very different. Unlike Daryl, Merle liked to fill the silence with pointless comments. He made hunting damn near impossible. Animals could most likely hear him from a mile away, and he never knew when to stop talking.

We got a handful of rabbits and a dozen squirrels, but it wasn't going to feed the ninety mouths back at the prison.

But Merle has been tracking a deer for the past few hours. Hopefully, we'll be able to capture the animal and bring it back to the prison shortly.

Merle fell into step with me. "Sunshine?"

Before he continued, I let out a quiet 'mhm' to let him know I was listening.

He exhaled. "Wha' happened?" When he realized I didn't understand what he was saying, he continued. "Darlina hasn't said a word since ya both came back."

I shrugged, not knowing what to say, my gaze fixed on the animal's obvious footsteps.

"Ask him."

"Tried tha'. All I got was a grunt."

I knew Daryl hadn't said much to anyone, but I had no idea he hadn't spoken to his own brother.

"When we came across those people. Out in the woods, he snapped a little." I replied.

"Wha' 'cha mean?"

He was still pacing beside me, his gaze now fixed on the tracks, as I searched for traces of the deer.

I continued on, grabbing my water canteen from my bag and taking a sip. "He beat one of the guys to death, not that I blame him. He deserved it, son of a b*tch. But he was out of it. Nearly got himself killed in the process."

Merles' brows knotted together, his forehead screwed up in confusion.

Merles' brows knotted together, his forehead screwed up in confusion. "What'd the guy say before tha'?"

hinking back to the moment in the woods when we met those guys, my brain recoiling all the information.

"Well, he mainly spoke to me, and I think the last thing he said to Daryl was that he'd take me out and have some fun or whatever."
