Soon after, Edmund and I were thrown into the witch's sleigh. Neither of us didn't dare to even try to talk or move, as the witch held daggers behind our backs, insuring that we don't do anything to retaliate against her because if we did... we'd be killed. The moment we left the castle grounds, Edmund and I were met with the chilly air hitting us straight onto our faces, making us shiver and our lips to turn a light shade of blue.
I never stopped looking around the snowy forest as this was my first outing in decades, and most importantly, on land. Although, I do wish it was under different circumstances, at least I finally get to get out of the frozen ice box I was forced to stay in.
Suddenly, the sleigh began to go over frozen water. My heart fell because I knew that there was once life in those waters, but thanks to the White Witch, those lives have all disappeared. Despite the snowy white winter, I still can see the beauty in what once was a harmonious and joyous Narnia.
As a new comer to this land, I can see why Lucy Pevenise was so intrigued with what she first saw. The winter at first glance is gorgeous of course, but once you learn the truth of why it's like this, then all you can really see is the horror and tragedy left behind.
The sleigh came to an immediate stop in the forest where the ice was melting. Already here was Jadis' army, sharpening all their swords and axes. I felt my heart beat quicken at how many people are here... there has to be over 3,000, and I know that there is gonna be a whole lot more coming from the other kingdoms that are allied with her.
The dwarf came around and roughly pushed me out of the sleigh. I fell to the ground, unable to get up as my hands and feet were tied, while I had a cloth wrapped around my mouth.
"Be careful with her," Edmund finally spoke since our ride here.
"I shall handle her the way I see fit," the dwarf smacked Edmund straight in the jaw before pulling him out of the sleigh, I whimpered as I saw Edmund being hit. The dward grabbed onto the rope around my wrists and dragged me, while he held onto Edmund's upper arm, to a tree. He tied us up before leaving us.
"Are you okay," I could hear the genuine concern in Edmund's voice as he was tied next to me.
I nodded my head, "Mhmm."
I could hear Edmund move his head towards me, "Thank god."
The dwarf began to make his way back to us, "Is our little prince and princess uncomfortable? Do they want their pillows fluffed? Special treatment for the special boy and girl! Is that what you wanted?"
I shot him daggers with my eyes. Anger filled me, and in return, a thunderstorm came upon us.
Peering to my side, vision blurry due to the rain, I see Edmund staring straight ahead, not noticing as I'm looking at him. Out of all the people in the human world, why was he one of the chosen. Someone who would willingly betray their own blood just to save their ass.
A part of me can understand why he did though, and that part of me I'm beginning to hate, as it's constantly trying to see the good in him. I know that he was most likely terrified when he came to Narnia and was probably scared of Jadis, although at the same time, he should've known to keep his loved ones away from her.
No matter how hard I'm trying to think of all the negative and disgusting things he did against not only his family, but to all of Narnia, there's a part of my heart that flutters whenever he looks my way. My mother had a dream for me to be with a man that could treat me like the Queen I already am, but could Edmund Pevensie be the one. Someone who's already wronged his kingdom?
As for me, my parents brought me up to be a ruler, someone who would die for their kingdom and I have no idea if Edmund is ready for that type of responsibility. I don't think he realizes that once him and his siblings defeat Jadis, they'd be Kings and Queens soon after. As my thoughts had shifted to happier ones, consisting of a certain future king, the rain seized, and just a gloomy sky could be seen from above the trees.
Growling from the huskies running back into our camp brought me out of my thoughts as everyone in camp turned towards them. It took a second to realize they were running from centaurs... from Aslan's army.
It all happened so fast as they invaded the camp, but they began to fight with the White Witch's army, killing anyone who came in their paths.
A centaur came running up to Edmund and I, and with a swift move of his sword, Edmund was free. "Get on my back," the centaur told him.
Edmund shook his head as he knelt in front of me, "Not without her."
I furrowed my brows at him as my head tilted. Why isn't he saving himself? Hell, he's more important to Narnia than I.
"We don't have ti-"
"I DON'T CARE," Edmund yelled, "I am not leaving her behind. She's important to me."
He glanced back at me with such..... love. What?! No, I- I can't be seeing this right.
With a heavy sigh, "Very well."
In a blink of an eye, I was free and grabbed by Edmund and we jumped on the centaur's back, "Hold on. FALL BACK! I'VE GOT HIM!" He turned back towards the direction they came in and began to run at full speed.
As we rode out of the camp, Edmund held me close to him as he took off the cloth around my mouth and paused as he took off the rope around my wrists as you could see they cut into my flesh.
"I'm sorry Seraphina. About everything," he stared straight into my eyes and held my waist to make sure I don't fall off.
I brought a hand to his cheek, "You haven't done anything to me personally to be sorry for. Thank you though, for saving me."
A smile crept onto his face, "I couldn't leave you."
The centaur cleared his throat, "If you don't mind me asking, who are you ma'am?"
Leaning further into Edmund's embrace, "Princess Seraphina of the Merfolk."
He gasped, "We- we have someone waiting for you at the camp site then, including Aslan."
I glanced down at the centaur as he continued to run to wherever he's taking us to. What did he mean he has someone waiting for me?
In far distance ahead, I saw a clearing that was filled with people mingling. Flying high and proud in the sky were banners, with lions decorating them.
Not only that, but blooming flowers and defrosting waters could be seen, only meaning one thing... spring is coming.... Narnia's true king is back, Aslan.
