"Hello, Ashton!" Ceaser says.
"Howdy!" My district partner.
Ceaser asks him how he ended up in the group. This will be good to know.
"Well, I wanted an alliance. Faith wanted one, too. She made friends with seven and Corala. Then I kinda joined them unexpectedly at lunch and now we are going in this with an alliance of five!" He says. "We are prepared!"
The crowd is hysteric. You'd think Ashton is a career.
"Faith and Ash!" I hear a fan cheer our names.
Ceaser calms the audience. "What skill does your alliance have that you know the careers don't?" Ashton ponders this. "A fifth person. A passion to get home. Faith."
The crowd has gone wild.
"Maple said she KNOWS one of you guys will win, what do you think?" Ceaser asks.
"For sure, this isn't for the fame and fortune the games brings. This is for our families who need us back home, and may the toughest tribute win because that's who will get out of here. The toughest."
"Tell us about your family, Ashton."
"Cattlyn is my sister who made it through the reapings. My mother died.... was murdered..... around a year ago, by peacekeepers. My dad and I are alone at home, Cattlyn moved in with her husband and is having a baby." He says.
I never knew this about him.
"What will you do with the money?" I'd help out Faith's family and probably give them everything I don't need. They need it, they're raising six children. If they don't, more of them children will be like Faith."
It is at this remark I start to cry. Corala reaches down from the row behind me and wraps her arms around my shoulders. New rule; Ashton or I have to win. I am sure the camera is on me, so I turn and smile at Corala.
"Do you guys have something going on?" Ceaser asks.
"Heck no! She's too busy with pizza."
The crowd laughs sympathetically.
"Well do you want there to be something?" Ceasar asks curiously.
I'm one hundred percent sure there's a camera on me now, I turn back to face it.
"Not-"
but Ceaser interrupts. "Not what, Ashton?"
"Not really, she's more of friend."
The crowd boos and I take a deep breath."Let's give it up for Ashton!" Ceaser shoves him off stage and when Ashton arrives at my side I give him a sincere hug.
He returns the favor subtly and the crowd goes wild. I like confusing them. We stand there listening to Peara talk about herself.
