It's 2:00 already and I am next in like to get my finger pricked. I'm used to this part. As the rest of district ten files into the square I hum in my head, to the tune of a lullaby my mother sings to my little siblings, which she used to sing to me. A song about tomorrow. Where a new day is a new start, I wish. Breathe, Faith. I tell myself. I focus on this once again while the mayor goes on about The Dark Days and The Rebelion and how the barbacious Hunger Games came to be. I completley tune him out until another 15 year old girl faints in the row in front of me. At least I'm not that scared.

He continues, "So let me introduce you to District 11's new escort, Ali Angler."

A pink lady pops on stage. I don't know what startled me more... Her raspberry skin or her chilling voice. I already don't like her.

" Good afternoon, District 10! Happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor!" She shreiks at the end of the statement.

She puts her hand in the 'girls' jar and fumbles around a little until her fingers find a home on a slip of paper.

She pulls it out, "Faith Trullen!"

I hear whispers that sound like yells. I feel super-human. My muscles are tensed, and begin to numb. My knees shake. They tremble until I find my feet are stubling forward.

"I can even hear the jaws hit the ground!" Ali laughs. "Any volunteers? Well then. On to the boys."

I make my way onto the stage and I fix my eyes on my family. The seven pairs of eyes with tears in them, saying, "Sorry. There's nothing we can do." My gaze falls back to the ground.

"Ashton Cullen" Ali yells.

A man from the eighteen year old section comes up. I guess he's still a boy, but he appears much older, not just by his size and strength, his face too. I'd guess he is 6'6", but who knows, I'm so short. He probably weighs double me. If I could bet, my money would be on him, if I had money to bet that is. I hope he wins. For my district's sake. For my family's sake. So they'd get something good out of this.
