Chapter 20-The Rejector meets the Rejected

"We do know a pack called Musicon."
"Wait what?" I began panicking.
"They came to get an alliance and they were establishing pack lands."
"Who's the Alpha?"
"Your mate."
"By law, when an existing pack goes to help a new pack establish the new pack lands, Betas are required to assist the Alphas. They provide witness. You have to be there. I'm sorry, but there's no other way." Brett apologetically said. 

I have to face Jordan, in person. Wohooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yelled Alicia. Mate-crazed, Kayda mocked.

"Then where do we go?"
"To the west of the territory."

My mind was all over the place, and I broke into a nervous sweat.

"Hello Jordan." Brett greeted. I stayed silent and kept a straight face.
Jordan handed them a piece of paper.
"The borders are fine." Brett and Eddy nodded. I looked at it. It was rather big though.
"We hereby give Jordan Zhang our permission to settle along our borders, as Alphas Brett Yang and Eddy Chen of Twoset." Brett nodded to me.
"I hereby support my alphas' decision to permit Jordan Zhang to settle along our borders, as Beta Alexine Chen of Twoset." I said.
"By the way, where's your Luna?" Brett prodded.
"It's not required by law, is it?" Jordan retorted
"Well?" 
"Stop poking fun at him, Brett." Eddy reprimanded.
"May I speak to Austin Tseng and Fred Wang?"
"You want them to be Beta and Gamma? Where's your current Beta?"
"She had obligations as Delta female of Gold Coast. She couldn't be Beta anymore."
"Ok, let me summon them. Anything else?"
"Can I speak to Ale-" 
Brett glared daggers at Jordan. "Don't trigger our Beta, pup, or we'll trap you in a sound cage and blast you with sound."
Jordan's eyes flashed colours, obviously wanting to act upon the insult but not wanting to displease an older and more experienced alpha. He nodded.
"Let me speak to those two first." he said.

Afterwards, it was my turn to speak to him. Just. Great. I'm out, Kayda retreated to the back of my mind. 

"Alexine, I am so sorry for all the pain I have caused. Will you at least just forgive me? "
"I already forgave you, except for one thing. Why did you cheat on me?"
"I didn't, and it's better to hear it from Oscar." Jordan's eyes changed colour: one eye was brown and the other blue. How peculiar.
"I was mad at Jordan, so I bashed him on a wall. Before you get mad-"
"We were both already mad. I think you just aggravated Alicia more. Let Jordan be back." His eye colours returned to normal.
"It's all my fault-"
"I doubt it's your fault. Instead of containing his anger or talking it out with you when you were clearly making a positive change, Oscar took out his anger on himself. It was also your dad's fault for knocking nonsense into you. Besides, if I hadn't been banished, I would never have gone to Twoset, where I needed training. Chelsea wouldn't have found her mate; I wouldn't have met my grandfather that soon."
"We can all thank Ling Ling for that!"
"So are we-" it surprised me that this question was coming out of my mouth, but Jordan was already hugging me.
"Thank you so much," he kept on repeating.

――――――As I walk past the lounge――――――

"We are moving to Musicon." Austin announced.
"No, what about Alexine? Elliane? Fred?" Jesse spoke.
"I think Fred accepted gamma or something. As for your friend, she's the Luna."
"I am too sick and tired, I can't handle-" 
"Just because we came here doesn't mean we settled permanently in Twoset. It was only a temporary refuge." Austin countered.
"Why would you want to go to a pack who isn't even established yet? And no, we don't have a Luna yet. As a result of a foolhardy alpha!" Jesse huffed.
"Well, it's just next door, so-" Jesse groaned angrily.
"Jesse- I'm sorry-" Austin shrieked and rushed out. Dumb beta, mocked Kayda. You love to mock people, said Alicia. Says YOU as you bash your own mate! Kayda countered. Says you who will never have a mate! Alicia yelled. Please shush, remember I am the one really dealing with all this mate business! I grumbled at them.

Ten minutes later, I decided to ask Brett and Eddy about what was going to happen.

They both had worried expressions on their faces.

"You know I'm fine, right?" I said, hoping they would stop worrying.
"We're just worried that he insulted you, or said it was your fault, or..." they trailed off.
"Well, he said it was definitely his fault. Alicia is just sour about something. I feel like she'll be causing problems later on, but I have my answer now: Luna of Musicon she is decided, so what happens when I become Luna??"
"Well, it seems like we need a new Beta now."
"Hilary should be Beta. Besides, why did you put her in one of the defense positions? She's much better at administrative work, demonstrated when we were at the convention."
"Well, at that time she requested to be a gamma."
"Hah, she's smart, getting enough experience in defense first is also crucial."
"Ok, we'll talk to her about it." Both left the room.

I wondered if Jordan was still there. I caught sight of him just outside the offices.

"What's up with Austin and Jesse?"

"I think I need to switch who my beta is. Nurse Samantha said that he aggravated her too much which made her blood pressure drop and she was pregnant, plus she was dehydrated."

"Well, I hope he learned a lesson. By the way, Jordan, have you heard of Albert Schoenberg?"

"His name isn't Albert, it's Alberich, like the troublesome dwarf in Das Rheingold."

"Huh, that seems like he signifies some impending doom!" I remarked.

Jordan nods. "In the opera, he caused a ton of chaos. He'll likely start a war, but we have to wait 18 years to find out."

"I think more. I remember once, my mother told me that the war is a long way off, and passed her grandchildren."
