***********

I stared at the man before me with my eyes narrowed. I recognized him as one of the Feral Wolves. I glanced at his patches, realizing at a glance he was member but wasn't one of the main decision makers in the club.

His eyes moved to the patch bearing my name. "Alpha? What kind of name is that? It seems more fit for the prez."

I gave him a crooked smile as I glanced at his name patch. "I guess it's a better name than Leo." I shrugged my hand inching toward my gun. "Seems like the name of a kitty cat not a wolf."

His nose twitched before wrinkling. His eyes leveled on me, not breaking the stare. Fucking hell. I could tell he was going to go for his gun. I shook my head slowly, giving him a warning because I didn't want to kill anyone right now. I just wanted to get Coralee and her father to safety.

He flinched toward his gun. That was all it took to make my decision. I already had my gun in my hand and fired, hitting him in his upper thigh. He screamed in pain as he dropped his gun on the ground. I kicked it out of the way and narrowed my eyes at him.

"You're fucking lucky I'm feeling generous today. Otherwise, you would be food for the forest animals." I shook my head as I glanced at the blood pouring between his fingers. "I would call your prez and get to the hospital before you bleed out."

I turned and ran toward the direction where Coralee and her father hid, frowning when I saw her wide eyes staring up at me with fear shining in them.

"Are you okay?" She asked, her eyes sliding over me.

My heart warmed as I realized that the fear on her face was due to concern for me and not fear of me.

There was a weird lump in my throat as I nodded. "There's not a scratch on me, Angel."

She gave me a smile that melted my heart further as she stood from her crouched position. Mark followed suit dusting off his jeans.

"Was that man associated with Jonathon?" He asked.

"No, but we definitely need to get out of here before his buddies show up."

We walked quickly away from the man, his screams fading into the forest. I was beginning to believe there wouldn't be a break in the forest when Coralee pointed at a light.

"I think we're at the border of Ozland." Her lips tilted in relief.

I moved forward and glanced beyond the tree line. We were on a hill that overlooked the little town below. One stoplight flashed in rhythm in the middle of it. Mark pointed at the mom and pop gas station with the van parked next to a pump. Psycho was leaning against it with his arms crossed over his chest. His head moved scanning the tree line. I stepped forward and he straightened.

I grabbed Coralee's hand, rushing her and her father toward Psycho, relieved we were away from Ozland.

**********

"What took you so long?" Psycho asked as we reached him.

"Ran into a feral wolf," I said, running my hand through my hair. "Left him bleeding in the forest."

"Why didn't you kill him?" Psycho asked, frowning.

I shrugged because the truth was I didn't know. Usually I would have but the thought of Coralee seeing a man's death bothered me. "I hoped they would be more worried about saving their man's life than following us."

It was a bullshit answer. Psycho gave me a long look, then nodded his head. "They will follow anyway but maybe you slowed them down." He glanced toward Coralee and Mark. "You might want to tell them what to do if that happens."

I flinched because he was right. I may have put Coralee and Mark in more danger leaving the man alive. Coralee's eyes were wide as I turned toward her.

"The Feral Wolves are different than your father. They won't care if there are witnesses. They killed our former prez...Beast's father. Beast got his revenge and killed their prez. This is a war between the clubs. Unfortunately, you may be in the middle of it now. If they find us and shoot at the van, get down and if the van stops, get out find a place to hide. Psycho and I will find you. I promise."

"What if you get hurt or killed?" Coralee asked, her eyes wide.

I wanted to tell her that could never happen but it would be a lie. Psycho turned to her. "You have to have some faith in us," he smiled, that crazy glint flashing in his eyes. "We've been in some bad situations and still got out alive."

"But what if that does happen?" Mark asked, moving closer to his daughter.

"Then, you get to Tennessee and you look for a man named Zeus. I know it's an ironic name but all those guys take on the names of the Gods because they really took their club name serious. Tell him you were sent by John. He knows you two are on your way and why. He'll help you." Psycho narrowed his eyes. "He won't do anything to hurt you. They are like us."

Mark nodded but Coralee leaned forward, staring into my eyes. "But you won't get hurt, right?"

I swallowed because as much as I wanted to promise her we would be alright, I couldn't...Not if the Feral Wolves were coming for us. They would be out for blood and that would most likely end in our deaths.

I raised my chin. "I swear to you that I will do everything in my power to stay unharmed. If they come for us, I promise to fight with everything I have in me to walk through the Chained Gods clubhouse doors beside you and your father. Like Psycho said, have faith in us."

She nodded. "I do have faith in you but that doesn't mean I don't worry about you to."

She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. My heart warmed as I realized how much I cared about this woman. Though I never thought it was possible, I was in love with someone and I knew that meant I would walk through hell for her if it meant she was safe.
