You were driving at the speed limit as to not gain any unwanted attention. Misha your son was sleeping in the back seat. You couldn't believe you'd done it. You actually left. You'd left Malcolm and his pack of psychopaths. You were going home.
You drove through the familiar streets of your sleepy home town. You pulled up in front of your brothers home. You carefully carried a sleeping Misha to the front door. What if he didn't let you in? What if he didn't want to deal with you and your issues?
You couldn't afford to not at least try. You had to for Misha's sake. You knocked gently on the door. You waited on baited breath. The door opened.
There stood your brother. He was rubbing his eyes from sleep. He didn't seem to register that you were standing before him.
"What the fuck do you want at 3am?" He said as his eyes focused and his mouth hung open.
"Hey." You said softly.
"Ivy?" He said his voice small.
"Hey Harry..." You said shifting your weight as Misha was starting to get heavy.
Harry moved to the side slightly and let you in. He looked around before shutting the door. He turned and faced you with wary eyes. You gently set Misha down on the couch without waking him. You looked at Harry and then the ground in shame.
"What are you doing here?" He asked softly.
"I left for good this time, Harry." You said still staring a hole into the floor.
"Really? Who is he?" Harry said pointing to the boy on the couch.
It had been so long since he'd seen you that you didn't realize he wouldn't know who Misha was. You looked at the small boy who had become your whole world. You smiled a little at his peaceful sleeping body.
"This is my son, Misha." You said looking at Harry.
Harry looked confused. He looked at the boy and then at you. He sat in a chair with a huff.
"Your mate?" He asked.
"No." You answered.
"How?" He shot back.
You knew that Harry would want answers after not seeing you for so long. You'd abandoned him to your insane parents. You'd left one group of psychos for another. You had the worst luck in the world. You sighed deeply.
"They have figured out how to trigger a heat even without the presence of a mate. They paid some mad scientist doctor man to mess with the pheromone levels. I was forced into a heat. I didn't know that's what was happening. I thought... well it doesn't matter..." you explained as a tear fell from your face.
"Shit, Ivy..." Harry said rubbing a hand over his face.
"I'm sorry..." you said eyes back on the ground.
"Ivy don't." He said abruptly.
"Don't what?" You said peeking up at him.
"Apologize. Please." He said firmly.
"Ok." You said eyes back down.
"Listen I have work tomorrow. I will take you and the boy with me. You can't be left alone. If he finds you...." Harry said seriously.
"I know." You said acknowledging what he meant.
Harry led you to the guest room where you carried Misha and laid him on the bed. You crawled up next to him. You felt the thoughts of how much your life has taken twists and turns creep in. You had been raised in a pack where the leaders were weak and wanted only the strong blood lines to continue even if that meant inbreeding. That was fine, but your brother's homosexuality wasn't. It still makes you sick when you remember your father telling your brother that he would learn to love pussy. He would learn to love yours the most. The thought made you want throw up. So when you'd met Malcolm who from the outside was your white knight come to Sage you. He did in way. That was all very eclipsed when he brought you into his pack to be used as a breeder. You were to bear him heirs. You were fortunate enough to have a boy and the first try.
"This is why you're my favorite." He said when Misha was born.
You shuddered as you tried to block out the old memories. Your mind however refused to cooperate. It took several long minutes for the adrenaline to wear off.
You let sleep and exhaustion over take you.

You woke to find the bed next to you empty. You panicked for a minute. You frantically began to search for Misha. Then you heard his voice. His tiny voice from the kitchen along with Harry's. You made your way there. You found Harry coaxing Misha to eat. He was letting Harry feed him but his eyes were blank and lifeless. He'd been through so much in his short life. You felt so guilty for that. He saw you and smiled a little. He'd still look at you like you hung the moon despite how much you were a let down as a mother.
"You're awake? Good. If you want you can come into work with me today. It's reading to the kiddos today with Rose. He might like that." Harry said as he began to dish you out some food.
You accepted the bacon and eggs gratefully and sat next Misha. He rested his tiny head against your arm.
"You want to go listen to stories at the library?" You asked him quietly.
"Ok, momma." He said softly.
After you'd finished breakfast, you all loaded up in Harry's car. He made his way down the familiar streets of town to the library. You followed behind him Misha holding your hand tightly. You entered the building. Harry pointed you in the direction of the reading spot. You sat the with Misha in your lap. That was until he saw Rose and he dived into her lap. You were shocked by this. Misha hadn't ever been friendly with people outside of her. His father had instilled in him that everyone was out to get him. So the boy never felt safe. Yet here he was in the lap of stranger giggling.
You really looked at Rose. She hadn't changed much since the last time you'd seen her. You could tell something was different about her. Then her scent flooded your wolf senses. Your entire being went rigid. Wolves.
You felt eyes on you. Your body on alert your eyes locked onto a big man across the room. He was watching Rose carefully. His eyes full of emotions you couldn't quite place. He was looking at Misha in his arms and then at Rose. You saw his eyes shift slightly and you realized what he was. Alpha.
You wanted to run from the building. Not again. No. Please no. You were panicking internally until he met your eyes and he inclined his head slightly. A bow of respect for someone he didn't know the rank of. What was this?
You quickly looked away and focused back on Misha who was now asleep in Rose's lap. You tried to extricate him once the story was over. You apologized.
"It's ok, Ivy. He's comfortable and safe. I don't mind." Rose said sweetly.
"Thank you for being so nice." Ivy said.
"Not a problem." Rose said and then looked up.
The alpha had moved across the room toward them. Ivy tried to calm her instinct to immediately run.
"What cha ya got there?" He asked smiling at Rose.
"His name is Misha. This is mom Ivy." Rose said smiling back.
You looked up at the alpha before you. You felt the panic rise in you. You were fighting everything inside you to remain calm and in place. You watched the alpha's curious face fall. His eyes soft and sad.
I'm not going to hurt you. I'm not that kind of alpha." He said soft and slow.
Something inside you was stirring. It told you that he was telling the truth. But then another voice told you that your instincts couldn't be trust because look at where you'd gotten yourself.
"Namjoon... what are you...? Oh...." Rose said her eyes growing big with comprehension.
"How do we know that you aren't?" Came the harsh voice of Harry.
Harry was glaring at the alpha. Harry had always been so hotheaded. Why couldn't he just back down this once?
"You don't. I could show you. Come to lunch with us." Namjoon said confidently.
"There's a pizza place down the street. Does Misha like pizza?" Rose asked you.
You nodded and watched as this giant of an alpha took your small son with such careful hands. He held him so gently that he didn't wake. Misha snuggled deeper into the large man's chest. Rose took your hand and you were off.
