Taehyung found himself laying on the couch of their new pack house bored out of his mind. Jimin was reading on the other end and Jungkook was playing video games. Yoongi was asleep in the lazy boy. Hobi was scrolling through his phone. Namjoon was with his mate. Jin was with his as well.
It wasn't that he wasn't happy for his brothers for finding people to be with. He just did not believe in "mates". He'd seen what "mates" were like as a boy. His parents had been them, or so they said it wasn't until much later he'd found out that their entire union had been arranged. That none of it was real. That they actually hated each other and their children. Taehyung had had a younger brother. Key word here being had. His father's never ending quest for power and control had led to the decimation of not only his pack but his family. Tae had barely escaped with his life.
Tae had found out about their big secret when he was 18. They'd come to him telling him he'd marry this nearby pack's alpha's daughter who was barely 16. They were expected to have pups immediately. Despite this being absolutely appalling to hear and against pack rules. Plus being illegal in human terms as well. His parents had insisted. Tae fought at every turn. It came time to run for his life and happiness. He was escaping from his parents when the rival pack attacked. He'd run into Namjoon, who'd taken the younger man by the hand and ran for their lives.
The rest was, as they say, history.
Despite Tae's distaste for the practice of "mates" he had to admit that the relationships between his Hyungs and their respective partners were very different from the one he'd watched growing up. That wasn't to mention that the human mate of Namjoon, Rose had Luna abilities that he didn't think she was even aware of. She'd been able to put even him in his place. No human could hold sway over a shifter. Yet, Rose had made it seem easy as breathing.
Rose had moved into the pack house along with Daisy. Namjoon went with Rose to work today while the pack moved her in. They should be coming home soon.
Tae was fiddling with his noodles when Jin and Daisy entered the kitchen chatting happily. They stopped abruptly. He knew they were eyeing him carefully.
"Taehyung... Are you all right?" Jin asked caution laced in his voice.
"I am restless." He said agitation filling him.
His head felt like it was buzzing, like there was something just around the corner. There was something he forgot or lost. Something he was missing, maybe. Something lurking just at the edges of his mind. Something that he couldn't quite grasp. He was at the precipice of something huge but could never quite see what was there. Something was coming.
Jin looked at him thoughtfully. He seemed to be pondering something rather deeply. Daisy went to the fridge and pulled out some cokes. She set them in front of the two men and watched both with wrapt attention.
"I can feel your tension. It is some kind of restlessness but at the same time it isn't. I can't really place what the cause is. I can bring Hobi in and maybe it's something medical?" Jin said worrying over him like a mother hen.
"That's not necessary, Hyung." He said sighing.
"Maybe going for a run to clear your head will help?" Daisy suggested kindly.
"Yeah I'll try that." Tae said as he stood and went out the back door.
Tae felt himself change from man to beast seamlessly. He hit the ground running. He felt the blood pumping through his veins and into his muscles. He focused on the air filling and escaping his lungs. He let the world wash away in the focus of his run. This had always calmed him in the past. Why wasn't it working? What is happening to me?
Tae returned feeling no better and in fact he was feeling worse. He felt twitchy and jumpy. Jimin gave him a sideways glance.
"Are you ok?" He asked.
"I don't know." Tae answered honestly.
"Ok..." Jimin said thoughtful.
They knew that Namjoon was bringing strangers to the house. The Luna had found some strays to bring home. Tae scoffed to himself. She's too kind. When Jin and Daisy arrived at the house he told them what was happening. Then the heard the sound of the gates opening again and not one but two cars driving in. The entire pack made their way to the foyer. Taehyung was becoming more and more agitated. Jin was eyeing him and then smirked knowingly.
Namjoon and Rose entered the house first. They were bombarded with the pack's presence. They reassured and warned them of the stranger's pasts. At least what they knew. Tae's heart sank at the thought of someone being abused by their alpha. It was a life he knew far too well. A knock on the door signaled the arrival of the new people. The door opened and in came a small blur who
immediately latched onto Namjoon. The boy was small and beautiful. Tae had always liked kids. He'd wanted them one day. That was until his parents made the thought of having children seem indecent. Tae's body tensed as the others entered the home. He looked to see the most beautiful woman he'd every laid eyes on. She tensed and immediately looked terrified. Tae's heart sank as he realized what was happening to him. He'd just found his mate.
