I zip out of the door, and run as fast as I can towards the back entrance. I hear a thunderous growl behind me that shakes me to my very core. Then I hear the sound of furniture being thrown around the room, before I bolt out the door. I know Zarah and Yasmeen must have done something to create a diversion for me.
I'm thinking at the speed of light, knowing I can't outrun him without my wolf. When I had my wolf I was quite fast on my feet, but without her, I know I wouldn't get far, so I think about where I can get into a cab or a car and drive away. The first thought that pops into my head is of the pack garage. I have the upper-hand because I know the terrain. I can run through the forest, instead of on the main road. I'd get there faster.
I bolt through the woods and thank myself that I'm not wearing heels. Flats are an extraordinary blessing today. I begin to hear the thundering of paws behind me. I know he's coming. I'm panicking, zipping over shrubs and rocks, trying my best not to trip. My brain is overflowing of what would happen if he caught me. I can't be Luna to the Alpha of the North. Daniel. Daniel. Daniel. It's all I think.
I keep thinking about the anger in his eyes. What he'd do to me, if he found out, I knew for years. I see the turning up ahead. I'm so close, I'm so close. All I have to do is get into a car. I'd figure out my next steps from there. I'm so wrapped up in my own head, that I don't see the shadows emerging from the bushes infront me. I don't see them until I'm about thirty paces away from the garage and he pops up in front of me, with the most malicious look in his eyes.
I skid to a stop, looking up at him. There's a good ten paces of distance between us. I look to my right. The shadows transition into wolves coming out from behind the trees. I look behind me, there are wolves from the midnight pack behind me too. I look up at him, I guess he notices the fear and panic in my eyes as lips morph into a smirk. He thinks he's won. I look to my left. There aren't any wolves there. I look back at him, and then to my left.
"Don't even think about it."
But it's too late, I've taken off again. Desperately running through the trees. I can't let him get to me. I hear paws running right after me, but I need to think. Just aimlessly running, won't get me away from him. I know I need to come up with something, but the panic going through my head overpowers my sense to be rational. I've barely been running two minutes, when I turn my head to my right and see a wolf overtake me, jump towards me and skid to a stop. Zyon's wolf is now standing in front of me, and has adopted a defensive stance. He growls at me and bares his canines. I can't help but admire his wolf. It's strong, the wolf of an Alpha. It's black with streaks of gold running through it. But the admiration is short-lived. I turn around to see wolves coming out of every bush around me, they completely surround me, making a circle. All adopting defensive stances. I know I can't run. I look helplessly at Zyon, swallowing loudly. He knows I'm nervous, and ready to take off the minute I'm given a chance. With his pack wolves surrounding me, he goes behind a tree, I hear the cracking of bones, his transition back into human form. He walks out from behind the tree, clad in his navy blue jeans.
His abs and muscles are on full display. The last time I saw him shirtless I was sixteen. My eyes zoom over him, taking in the ways his body has changed before I quickly avert my eyes. Most mates probably wouldn't be able to look away but I've had years of practice.
He walks towards me. Goddess, my legs are itching to run. I take a few steps back, but the wolf behind me snarls. I turn my head to glare at him, but when I turn back, Zyon is right in front of my face. So close that I can smell his breath, too damn close. I can't think. I just close my eyes. I can't handle the eye contact. I can't handle anything in his situation.
"Dismissed." I hear him call out. I peel my eyes open, to find the wolves leaving. When they're far enough to not be seen, I turn back to him. And then without taking even a second to process, I bolt straight, deeper into the forest. I hear a snarl behind me. I know he was already pissed, but I know this time, if he catches me, pissed would be an understatement. Before I can get twenty paces away from him though, I feel him crash into me. We go tumbling onto the ground, him landing on his back, me on top of him, with my hair falling all over our faces. I immediately attempt to get up, but before I know it, he's flipped us. I'm lying on my back and he's on top of me. I snap my eyes closed.
