I wake up every morning of that week with a pounding headache. The days went by great, but every evening someone or the other would comment on how cute or perfect Daniel and I are for each other, or how Daniel is completely focused on me. What followed after that was an overwhelming sense of guilt and drinking the evening away- drinking my guilt away. Apart from that, the weekend was great. I kept myself away from the forest as much as I wanted to go into it. I kept thoughts of Zyon out of my head and focused on Daniel and his family. By the week came into an end, I was in no mood to leave. I realized how focused I'd been on work for the past year. I hadn't given enough breaks to myself. With promises, of seeing each other soon, Daniel and I departed to get back home, to our jobs and lives.

On the drive back home, I looked at Daniel as he ran his fingers through his hair, 'This week was great. So perfect."

"It was, wasn't it? The only thing that creeped me out was the forest. Specially at night." He says.

"What? You thought it was creepy? I think I fell a little in love with the forest. It was so picturesque." I said, imagining it in my head.

"Eeek, definitely not my thing. Definitely more of a city guy."

"I know." The love of the forest I realized was one thing I would never share with Daniel. The one thing that was an inherrant part of me, nature, was something he didn't see the same way. But he was perfect in all other regards. The perfect man.

My phone rang, with Alpha Amor's name popping up on the screen. "Duty calls." I say to Daniel.

"Kat, where are you?"

"Just heading back now Alpha."

"That's great. Alpha Zyon and his pack left yesterday. It's been a hectic week. There are some changes being made in the employees of our corporate space so was wondering if you could drop by the packhouse for dinner, and we could discuss the intricacies over dinner."

"Yeah, that sounds fine Alpha. See you around 8?"

"Okay, drive safe."

With that he hangs up. I'm relieved to know Zyon has left. It means I won't have to take a repressant tonight. I can avoid that horrible pain. By the time, we reach our apartment it's already six and I have to be at the pack at 8.

"Babe, I'm gonna get changed. If the meeting runs late, I'll crash at Zarah's. I really am quite exhausted today."

"That's fine. Just text me if you decide to sleep there."

I run into the shower, wash my hair, and shave. I put on a halter olive green dress that stops at my knees. I put on nude, flat pumps underneath. I was a little too exhausted to wear heels. As I put on my makeup, light eyeliner, mascara, and pinkish gloss, I let my hair dry. It's already straight so I know there's not much I have to do to it.

I step outside my room, ready to go. Daniel looks up and says, "Wow, you look stunning."

"Babe, I literally look like shit today. But you're sweet. Love you."

"Love you too. See you later, okay?"

I wave at him and leave the flat, getting straight into a cab and going to the pack. Zarah and Yasmeen are waiting for me by the entrance. A week feels like way too long, it feels like I haven't seen them in forever.

"Hey guys!"

"Kat! Finally. We're late. Let's go." Zarah says.

"Goddess, I missed you too." I huff.

"Don't be dramatic, it was just a week."

"Remind me, never to miss you again."

Zarah rolls her eyes at me as I tackle her into a hug and then bring Yasmeen into it. "You guys really have to update me about all the unification events you know."

"God, it was insane. Some of the Midnight pack members are so stuck up. Some are really sweet though. But it was exhausting. Part of their traditions were these night long pack runs to let our wolves "bond" and "trust" each other." Yasmeen says, as she throws her hands up in the air.

Zarah and I start laughing in exasperation. Zarah suddenly stops walking. She looks at me. There is something I need to tell you though and you should know before we go in.

"What?"

She takes a deep breath. "I overheard a conversation between Alpha Zyon, the council elders and Alpha Amor. Alpha Zyon has contacted the council elders and the witches because he's twenty-five now and hasn't found his mate. Obviously we know why, but for an Alpha to not find his mate at this age is practically unheard of. I heard the council discuss a number of options. His mate couldn't be dead, because the Moon Goddess always makes sure that each pack has a Alpha and a Luna. She wouldn't leave any Alpha without one because it would unhinge packs and the werewolf world. There was a possibility she could be a prisoner of war or a rouge, but Alpha Zyon has if not attacked every pack, he has been to every pack, even in their prisons to see if his mate was there. The thing is an Alpha's mate has to be someone of a proper rank, strong, a warrior or above. So they came to the conclusion," She pauses.

"Go on. Please."

"The witches came to the conclusion that either she was being hidden or was hiding from him. They felt it would be the latter because no one would want to mess with the Alpha of the North and hide his mate for him. He has no enemity with the witches so it isn't them, hiding his mate from him. So they know that his mate is hiding from him. They just don't know, how or why. The witches apparently know how someone could conceal a mate bond, but they refused to divulge that information saying that it was witch business."

I didn't know what to think. Zyon, now, knew I was hiding from him. Well, not me specifically. but his mate generally. "Look, I don't care what he knows or doesn't know, as long as he never finds me. From what I've seen before I left, the conversation I had with him, I don't want to be Luna to the Alpha of the North. It's only solidified my decision."

Zarah nods. "Okay. It was important for you to know though. Come on, lets head in now. We're super late."

We walk into the pack house where dinner hasn't started yet, which is weird because it usually starts exactly at eight and we are fifteen minutes late.

"Alpha Amor, Sorry I'm late. Took me longer than expected to get back from the cabin. Why hasn't dinner started yet?"

"That's alright, Kat. We're gonna start any minute. Take a seat."

I sit down in my chair, with Zarah to my right and Yasmeen on my left. "Alpha, what are we waiting for?"

"The Alpha of the Midnight Pack is returning. He is joining us for the discussion. Some of his pack members will be joining our corporate space, so I thought you could meet them and introduce yourself."

I'm out of my seat, before he completes his sentence as I hear a car pull up outside and an intoxicating scent fills my nose. My sense and mind go into overdrive. Yasmeen and Zarah look at me and realize, I'm without the pill. Just as I'm about to bolt out of the room, the hinges to the door are practically thrown off.

Zyon storms in, in a plain black t-shirt, with navy blue jeans. His eyes land on me, they narrow when they realize who I am and what I am to him, and then I see confusion and then anger behind his eyes. That's when I take off running.
