Give Me Peace

18 year old Esther Marcus sat beside her boyfriend, Nick Winslow, praying to God to wake him from his coma.

2 weeks earlier 20 year old Nick lost control of his long board, causing him to hit his head on a bench. Esther watched the whole ordeal go down, they had gone out to celebrate finishing their video for a contest for their favorite band, Anthem lights.

Back to the present, she stopped praying not long later, the news had hit her hard. Nick may never wake up. The thought was unbearable, she didn't have anyone else after her parents were killed by a drunk driver 9 months earlier, and his family was distant and had practically disowned him. They only had each other, she couldn't lose anyone else.

(Esther's P.O.V)

I sat there unsure what to think, He had moved across Texas with me this summer so I could attend the Texas Tech but ended up having to drop out because of last minute costs I couldn't afford. He was always there for me, when my parents died 2 days after my high school graduation I was crushed and miserable to be with, but he stayed. He was with me in my worst times, now I'm going to stay with him.

I fingered the promise ring he had given me my 18th birthday. It took all I had not to cry, to think he may never be able to fulfill that promise crushed me. I pulled my long curly dark brown hair into a pony tail and grabbed my Bible and read his favorite verse out loud like I did everyday.

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance to you and give you peace." I closed my bible and bowed my head. "Dear Heavenly Father," I prayed. "I come to you now knowing it's all in your hands, please heal him, he is all I have. Lord, I ask you, please give me peace, I am so lost! Nothing seems to ever go right! I know it's like daddy used to say, 'You give us challenges to strengthen our faith, and no matter how hard they are, you still love us and nothing can change that.' In Jesus' name I pray, Amen."
