I was flying, almost as high as the clouds. The rain had finally stopped and the clouds had cleared revealing the moon which shined with a glowing while light and reflected off my out spread wings. Far down below me there was also light, from the houses I was flying over. I had forgotten to pack a compass with me but I found that I didn't need one. Just like in my dream, I could tell what direction I was flying in. I was flying north.

I had been flying non-stop for almost an hour, I wasn't tired at all.

Two hours in and my wings started to get tired. I should probably stop and rest soon. I kept flying.

I checked my watch. It had been three hours. My wings were starting to cramp up and I noticed I was slowly getting lower. Yeah, it's time to rest.

I was flying over the countryside, there were fields with the occasional farm house for as far as I could see. I tried to land on a small dirt road inbetween some fields but I was more tired than I realized and ended up being blown off course and landed in a field of corn.

Great.

I waved my arms in front of me to clear the leaves from my face. Looking around, I couldn't see the way out. I sighed and started walking in a random direction, following the rows of corn.

Eventually I found a dirt road, probably the same one I had been aiming for. I hopped the fence and sat down on the road. The moon let off enough light for me to be able to see if anyone were to come along the road. Just in case, I took the coat out of my bag and placed it beside me. My stomach rumbled. Might as well have a midnight snack. I thought as I grabbed a bottle of water and a bag of trail mix out of my backpack. Munching on my snack, I thought about what I was going to do next.

It would probably be best if I travelled during the night, that way it would be less likely to be seen by anyone else. That would mean I would have to rest during the day. Hopefully I'll be able to find somewhere to sleep every night.

I lay down, using the folded coat as a pillow. I'll just rest my eyes for a bit...

I looking down at myself, as if I was playing a video game in third person. I saw myself lying down, curled up on a pile of hay. The dream zoomed out to show the place I was in, it was a barn to store hay. It was near a road, and I could see that road led to a town.

My eyes opened slowly as I felt myself waking up. The sunlight shined on my face. Oops. I fell asleep. I could hear a faint rumbling noise that was slowly getting closer. Be quiet... I'm trying to sleep. The noise got closer. That noise... it sounds like some kind of vehicle... Suddenly my eyes snapped open with realization and I sat up quickly. I looked around to see a tractor coming towards me. Uh oh-

In a panicked rush I grabbed the coat I was using as a pillow and threw it on to cover my wings. Putting on my backpack, I stood up to wait for the tractor to reach me. It pulled up beside me and stopped. The man driving the tractor looked down at me.

"What are you doing all the way out here?" He asked me.

He didn't seem mad that I was on his property, just confused. Quick, I gotta come up with a story. Something simple and believable.

"I, uh, the- the aliens dropped me here."

I mentally face palmed. I'm so stupid! The aliens? Why did I say that!

The man looked at me with an amused look. "The aliens, huh?" He obviously didn't believe me.

Well, I might as well stick with the story I started.

I looked up at him. "Yup, the aliens. They abducted me and then dropped me off in this cornfield." I gestured towards the field I'd landed in.

He laughed. "Yeah ,sure. Well, do you need a ride? I can take you to the main road if you want, but no further.

"Oh yeah, thanks."

I climbed up into the tractor and sat beside the man. The ride was short but bumpy, I kept getting bounced out of my seat. I've only had wings for a few days and I'm already starting to rely on them as much as my other limbs. I thought as I resisted the urge to spread my wings for balance yet again as the tractor went over another bump. The farmer didn't say anything, so I didn't say anything either. Eventually we got to the road, I hopped off the tractor and thanked him.

Well, now what.

I was standing on the side of the road, not a car in sight. The sky was clear and the sun was out so it was too risky to fly, someone could see me. I sighed. I guess I've got to walk. Like earlier, I could tell what direction I was going. I knew that if I went to the left the road would take me north east, while if I went to the right I would be travelling south west. I turned to the left and started walking.

A few cars zoomed past, but none stopped. I had been walking for about an hour and the sun beating down on me was almost painful.  I wanted to take my coat off but couldn't risk someone seeing my wings. Deep in thought, I didn't notice a car pulling up beside me until the woman spoke.

"Do you need a ride?"

I looked up and saw a white car next to me, a kind looking woman leaning out the window. There was a kid sleeping in the back seat, maybe about four or five years old. It looked safe enough.

"Yes, thank you!" I said as I stopped walking. I opened the car door and slid into the passenger seat.

"So, where are you needing to go?" The lady asked as she started driving.

"Oh, if you could just drop me off at the nearest town that would be good." I replied and looked out the window at the rows of corn speeding past. Hopefully she doesn't find it suspicious that I don't even know what the nearest town is called.

"Sure." She replied. She seemed to notice I wasn't intrested in conversation. "Don't worry, I wont ask what you are doing out here all alone," I could hear the smile in her voice. "I'm not sure if I want to know."

I let out a chuckle but didn't say anything in response, continuing to look out the window. The air conditioning was on in the car, keeping it cool. I started to feel sleepy.

"We're almost there!"

I jolted back awake. Looking out the front window, I saw the town in the distance. I turned towards the woman to thank her for driving me this far but noticed something past her out the window that would have made me stop in my tracks if I had been walking.

"Actually, can you drop me off right here?"
