I paced back and fourth in my room nervously, glancing out the window every time I passed it.
"What will I do?"
Layla and I had made it home from school safely, we were now in our room doing homework. Well, Layla was doing homework. I was too worried to sit down.
"Its ok, we have the whole weekend to figure this out." Layla said.
I was worrying about my wings, and what I would do when I had to go back to school. There was no way I would be able to cover them, unless I had some kind of really big coat. But I didn't have a big coat, and it was far to hot to be wearing something like that.
"But what is there to figure out? There is no way I can go to school without people seeing my wings. If there was you would have figured it out by now."
We had been trying to come up with ways for me to hide my wings, but there was nothing we could think of. Maybe I would just have to go with my wings and be made fun of. But when the teachers asked me to take them off, people would get suspicious that I can't.
Layla whirled around in her chair. "Could you just sit down already? Or at least stand still? You are so distracting."
"Sorry." I said and sat down, feeling guilty.
I got out my maths book and looked at today's blank page. I sighed. "Hey uhh... would I be able to read your notes from maths today? I didn't write much down and I don't remember what we learnt." That was an understatement. I didn't remember a single word the teacher said.
Layla looked over at my blank page and rolled her eyes. "Fine, here." She handed over her book and then added in a nicer tone, "I can understand why you would be distracted."
I grabbed the book. "Thanks," I laughed. "I don't think I wrote a single word today."
Layla laughed at that and we settled down and started doing homework. I looked at her book and saw we had done algebra in maths. I sighed and started copying down the equations into my book.

I rolled over in my bed. I had been lying here for hours, unable to sleep. I looked over at the clock. 2:34. Sighing, I sat up. Maybe I could go get a drink, it might make me fall asleep easier. I looked out the window. The moon was full, shining down on the dark street. There was no people or cars to be seen. The sky was clear and there was no wind. A perfect night for flying...
Before I could talk myself out of it, I got up and quickly walked towards the door, being careful not to wake Layla. I had cut slits in my pyjama shirt earlier for the wings, and I stretched them out, feeling the strength running through them.
"Lily? Where are you going?"
Uh oh. I turned around slowly to find my sister sitting on the edge of her bed, staring at me.
"Uhhh... nowhere?" I said. You know, like a liar.
"Lily." Layla said in a warning tone.
I sighed. "Fine. I was going to go outside."
She looked confused. "Why would you go outside at this time?"
I glanced out the window at the sky and she realized what I was saying.
Layla's eyes widened and she stammered, "But you- thats- its dangerous! You don't even know if you can fly! And what if you fall and get hurt, it's not like you can go to a hospital for a broken wing!"
