Perfect. There in his arms, barely audible breathing. Calm. Rain softly patters on the window. Beautiful. The sun hadn't yet begun to rise in the sky. A fiery ball, millions of miles away. He silently petted the hair of the sleeping man next to him. A small smile on his face. Dream looked out the window. How could he have survived without this? Just simple pleasures. Just small moments where everything was right, and everything was perfect.
He spent weeks sulking around his house, mourning the loss of his sister. The only one who cared for him his entire life. The one who only became friends with people who had death dates close to hers so that she could meet them again in the afterlife, very soon.
But, he didn't want to think about her. It just made him sad. All he wanted was to spend forever with George. They had forever. They would do anything, and everything they wanted to. Dream closed his eyes, smiling, and took a breath. It was about 1 in the morning, but he couldn't sleep. He opened his eyes, and looked out the window.
There was a small flash of yellow light. Dream blinked, confused. Then, another tiny, orb-shaped yellow flicker of light. Fireflies. Carefully. He moved George's head onto a pillow, and he stood up. Tip-toeing his way to the door.
"Dream?" A small voice came from the bed. "Where are you going?"
"I saw fireflies, so I wanted to go outside." Dream replied sweetly.
"Can I come with you?" George swung his legs over the side of the bed. He yanked and stood up groggily.
"Of course." Dream walked over to him, taking his hand and leading him out of the bedroom, down the hall, into the kitchen, and out the sliding door.
They stepped out of the house, and were hit with a cool breeze. A bearable one. George smiled, and turned around, walking backwards with his arms outstretched. He looked up and spun around. Stepping onto the cold grass. Dream laughed.
"What are you doing?" He walked towards George, who was still spinning.
"If you focus on one spot in the sky, it looks like you're traveling at light-speed. Which I find funny, because we might be around long enough for light speed to be invented" George smiled at Dream, stopping his circular journey.
"That was a Star Wars reference right?" George nodded. Dream laughed. "Nerd."
George crossed his arms, looking away. But then, his arms dropped. As he looked around and turned slowly, he saw the fireflies. What seemed like hundreds of tiny lights flickering on, off... on, off... a light show that danced in his vision. It had no rhyme, or reason, or pattern, or code. It was just lights, beautiful dancing little bugs, who lit up the night and made it so so much better. George sat down, and then, layed down on the wet grass. Dream walked over, laying with him. Dream rested his head in his hands, on George's stomach.
It was the moments in silence, when no sound was needed. Nothing needed to be said. And nothing was said. Perfect days, to perfect nights.
