AN: In this, everyone has a day they are supposed to die. And nobody has lived past their death day in 5000 years
2 months. It had been two months since he was supposed to die. Since he was supposed to move on from this world and head to the next.
George walked downstairs, making two pieces of toast for himself. He sat down by himself at a table for two, and started eating. He ate at an empty table, in a big empty house, in a huge, lonely world. George had never been one for friends. Why try to love if you know it can't last? Right? George sighed as he finished his food and put his plate in the dishwasher.
He didn't want to go back upstairs, it was even more lonely up there. But in the mansion he lived in, where everything was so far apart, he didn't want to go anywhere in it. The mansion was the last gift from his dying father. He had inherited it, and since it was already paid off, barely ever left the house.
His dad had died only a few years before from CAD. He had lived in a time when everybody smoked, and it had a huge effect on his lungs, so it made it harder for him to survive.
Today thought he felt different. He wanted to walk around, outside. It was 2034, and he hadn't been outside of his property in a year. He put on a jacket and opened the door, the bright sun blinding his eyes for a moment, before they adjusted.
He walked down the stone path leading up to his house, and stepped onto the sidewalk, taking a deep breath before continuing to walk. He walked out of the 'rich' neighborhood, and downtown to where the shops were. It was crowded, which was a bit scary for him. But, he tried not to think about it. He weaved through the people, making it out somehow, and walked over to a nearby park.
He sat on a bench and watched as people chatted, walked dogs, took runs. As children played together in the grass, climbing trees, and in a sand pit. He saw two people pass that looked slightly familiar, they were walking together talking.
One had on a black belt-like thing that was wrapped around his head, but didn't look bad. He had a long sleeve black shirt with a white shirt over it, with a flame logo. He had black hair, and brown eyes. The other guy was in a black and red hoodie, had glasses, and a kind smile. His hands were in his pockets, and he was listening to the other guy intently. Then, the hoodie-guy saw George. His jaw dropped, and he walked over.
"George?" The guy said, "Is that you?" George looked at him.
"Yeah, I'm sorry, but who are you?" George responded, the guy looked at him, partially sad, partially laughing
"It's Bad, from high-school. And Sapnap," Bad smiled, and suddenly, George remembered where he recognized them from.
"No way! Hey!" George got up from the bench, to go hug them. Sapnap and Bad weren't their real names, just the names they had wanted to be called.
"Woah, that's George? Aye man! It's been forever!" Sapnap gave him a fist-bump.
This was new, George was actually talking to others. Granted, he technically already knew them, but it was a step in the right direction.
"Hey Sap!" George smiled.
"Hey, Sap, George! I have an idea," Bad started, "What if we all went out to lunch? Y'know to catch up!"
"That actually sounds like a brilliant idea," George said. His two pieces of toast really hadn't done much to his hunger.
The group of three walked to a restaurant called Pancake Place, Breakfast, Brunch and Dinner. Bad opened the door and the other two walked inside, getting a table.
They got seated in a booth almost immediately, and water was brought to their table. Bad put his hood down, and rolled up his sleeves. Then started chatting.
"So, George how have you been doing!" Bad asked. George thought, nothing interesting had really happened to him since High School, besides his whole family dying. But starting a conversation with 'Oh, I've been doing well, y'know, my whole family is dead, but I mean. Life happens' was not the best thing.
"Well, I've been doing good, not much interesting has happened since High School. I mean except for me inheriting my dad's mansion" George said
"Oh, did he... pass?" Bad said, careful not to come off rude or pushy, "It's ok, you don't have to answer that."
"It's fine. He did pass, it was a few years ago. So it's alright." George said, "What about you?" George smiled, but only a little. The truth was, he did miss his father, even though he wasn't necessarily a good person, he was the person who cared about George more than he cared about himself. And it was hard for him to say it was fine. But, he figured, since it had been a couple years, it might be time to start moving on.
"I've been great! I'm going to college, and majoring in creative writing-" Bad said
"And his stories are so good!" Sapnap interrupted, Bad looked down, his face flushed with embarrassment.
"They aren't that good," Bad said before looking up again.
"Well, I would love to read one if you would let me!" George smiled. Bad flushed with embarrassment again, luckily the waiter came over and saved him from Sapnap's never ending compliments on his writing.
"Hi, I'm Dream, I'll be taking your order today. Have you decided on anything you want yet?" George hadn't seen him yet, and was looking at the menu.
"I am going to get a breakfast burrito, and a coke" Sapnap put his menu down. "Bad? How about you!"
"I'm just going to get the..." He looked at the menu. "Chocolate chip pancakes with syrup and strawberries." He smiled at the waiter.
"I'm going to get that as well." George finally put the menu down and looked at the waiter. His curly dirty-blond hair that covered half of his face, matched with his light freckles and tanned skin. His light green eyes stood out, matching his dark green hoodie effortlessly. George realized he was staring, and quickly looked away blushing. The waiter smiled.
"I'll be back soon with your food." And he walked away.
Almost immediately, Sapnap looked at George.
"What was that? You just full on stared at that waiter." Sapnap laughed a little. "You ok?"
George blushed and looked down at his feet. "Yeah, I'm fine"
Sapnap looked at Bad, smirking.

Later, Bad drove George home, because Sapnap went home earlier. George and Bad talked a lot in the car, catching up and just being friendly. They had all been hanging out for hours, and it was about 9:30. Sapnap had left at 7:00. Then, they arrived at George's house. Bad was astonished.
"That's where you live!?" George laughed a little, as Bad stared, wide-eyed.
"Yeah, I told you, I inherited it from my dad." Bad didn't say anything as George laughed and got out of the car. "Bye Bad! I'll text you tomorrow!" George walked inside, unlocking the door, and turning around as Bad's car drove away.
He smiled and walked inside, locking the door behind him. He walked outside the back door, grabbing a water bottle from the fridge on his way out. He walked out into the porch and looked at the stars, like he always did. He sat down on a chair and closed his eyes. Hoping somewhere, somehow, his dad was watching him.
"Goodnight," He said, to nobody in particular. Maybe it was his dad, maybe it was his mom, maybe it was the waiter at the restaurant, or maybe he was just talking to the stars. It didn't matter, he just wanted to say it. A couple minutes later, he walked back inside, and up to his room. A bare room with a grey-sheeted king sized bed. He changed into an oversized shirt from his dad, and climbed into the bed, which felt too big for his small self.
