The jet touched down and Soja jerked awake. He had been gently snoring in the seat beside me keeping me awake the entire ride. Not that I would be able to sleep anyway. We would be staying in my old house.
I wasn't very fond of the idea but we needed somewhere to stay. It wouldn't be that long, or at least it shouldn't. Soja hadn't made it sound that way though. I was now afraid that'd I'd have to be in that terrible house longer than I wanted to be. But I didn't really have a choice at this moment.
Soja got up and put out his hand to me to help me up out of my seat. I took it, exhausted from the long flight with no sleep. We disembarked the plane and noticed that we had landed in the feild behind my house. I hadn't been here in years.
As I gazed at the house I could feel a tear try to escape from my eyes. Tyler and Soja stood beside me each putting their hands on either one of my shoulders.
Soja was the first to let go and make his way to the backdoor of the house. I started after him. The warm night air gently caressing my arms. Tyler started to follow not wanting to be left behind.
The door slid open with ease as Soja went to enter. The smell of lemons and roses wafted out of the house as we entered. The house looked earily similiar to how it did back then. Slight changes every now and then but the changes were so subtle that they were barely noticable. The light blue flowered wall paper now removed and the walls painted a pale blue. The white tile changed for white wood flooring. Nothing has really changed.
I walked around the house. Memories with my mother flooding back into my mind. Happy memories of us reading books or sewing in the drawing room along with painting. Each room carrying a new memory. Doing our hair in the bathroom. Studying to be a nurse in my room. And then I came to my mothers room.
Images of her blood all over the walls flashed into my head. Me crouching in her closet as he hacked her to death. Me being pulled out of the closet and led into my room. Being raped and shooting him as he was killing me. All of it came rushing back and I could feel my throat tighten up and tears start to form.
I left her room closing the door behind me. I slowly made my way back to my room where Soja and Tyler stood talking beside my bed having brought my bags up and laying them on the bed. The bed spread was the original one that had on it the day I died. I could tell. My initials were sewn in the top. How they got all the blood out, I had no idea.
They stopped talking when they noticed me enter the room. Tyler was the first to speak, "I know this must be hard for you but I know that you'll be strong. We'll finish this assignment as quickly as possible and we'll be back home before you know it. " He gave me a big smile and rushed out of the room saying that he had to take his stuff into the room he was staying in.
That left Soja and me left. I looked at him, "So where is everyone staying?"
Soja claped his hands together and said, "Well, Tyler said that he was going to take the down-stairs guest room next to the living room office so he can set up shop for the assignment. That leaves the two upstairs rooms. I figured I would stay in your mothers room. I mean I love the large window that looks out into the garden!"
I nodded. "So that leaves my room. That works. I can keep a look out through the balcany windows to see who comes up the drive."
He looked at me with concern but quickly changed it to being non-chalant. "Well," he said abruptly while patting his thighs. "We brought your things up. All the curtains in the house have been replaced with blackout curtains so you should be able to sleep well today. The sun won't be able to creep in through the fabric."
He started to walk out of the room and I grabbed his arm to stop him. He looked at me in surprise.
"Thank you," I said as I pulled him into a hug and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. "Thank you for taking my mothers room."
He smiled and hugged me back tightly and said, "You're welcome."
With that he went to his room and we fell asleep waiting on tomorrow.
