The tips of the trees seemed to darken with the mist. All colors were dark or dull, not attracting any attention. The forest seemed to work its own way, but she was watching too.
Intricate patterns formed on the ground- tires had just rolled by. For the first time in decades of waiting, someone was here. That someone would be her key out. Her key to get what she wanted. Soon they would wish they'd never been here.
In the car were a pair of adults and two girls. They were in the middle of a deep argument, not noticing the clear signs that they were being watched. One of the girls kicked her feet onto the seat in front of her, only to be sharply reprimanded.
Outside, she couldn't tell what was being said, but she knew that the girl had the mind of a victim. Easily manipulated. Only one thing was left to be determined.
There was another girl in the car, this one had a strong force of mind, and stubbornness that almost knocked her over. But there was something else...
She frowned. Apparently she'd underestimated herself. She could still tell...
But if this was what she was up against, things would be much more difficult than she'd anticipated. As the tire tracks faded into nothing, she opened her mind to other places.
Nothing.
Nothing except a boy. He wasn't too far off, but she wouldn't bother him.
For now.
But what she didn't know was that he was watching her. And he himself had gotten some insights.
If he could steer that car away himself, he would. Everything was worth changing their minds. Because even for him, this wasn't normal. Something felt very very off.
And even though the people in the car weren't usually the danger...
Somehow he felt that this time, it was different.
Roxanne had been right about one thing.
They should have never been here.
