Kalyani

Sitting on the porch, Kalyani shivered, but not from the cold; the heat. Sweat ran down her back, drenching the shirt she had on. Apparently there were some important needs that "should be completed" so her parents were at the grocery store.

She could be trusted. Her sister? Not so much. Which was why their parents expected the house to be in perfect condition when they returned. It's much harder than it sounds.

Aria steals Kalyani's identity, pickpockets at school for lunch, and "borrows" people's phones (which ultimately end up in the town dump). So, overall, not exactly a party to hang out with her. Anyways, since this was a new house, Kalyani was hoping she wouldn't drag her into any of the crazy things she did. She was sadly disproved. Her watch read 11:59 AM.

"3... 2... 1..."

Exactly on time, Aria burst out of the house. "KALYYY it's time to go!" she yelled, skipping all the steps in one leap.

Kalyani crossed her arms and scowled. "Go where, exactly? Also, don't call me that."

Aria groaned, jumping up onto the railings. "You're such a spoilsport. It's so fucking hot outside- we should go on a car ride or something. I can call you what I like, I'm your sister. Besides, your name is way too long."

Okay, so not what she had expected. "You don't have a drivers license, remember? You failed. I'm the one who passed, and we are not going anywhere while mom and dad have the car."

"And when has that ever stopped me?"

Kalyani fell silent to consider this point. Yes, nothing had really ever prevented Aria from doing the craziest things. And maybe, just maybe, she could shut her up by taking her down the street for ice cream.

"Fine. But we aren't driving, we're just heading-"

Aria squealed. "YES let's- wait," she shot her sister a pitying look, "are you really gonna go out looking like that?"

Before protesting, Kalyani looked down. Yes, her T-Shirt and jeans did look rather ratty compared to Aria's pink spaghetti strap top- but what Kalyani had on was something her parents would approve of her wearing. She glared, "Yes, I will, or I'll veto the ice cream and tell dad what you wanted to do."

"Oooooh, I'm so scared."

So anyone who didn't know them- which was everyone at the moment- would think Kalyani was a suck-up. What kind of sixteen year old doesn't let her twin sister go for ice cream or for a drive? Letting Aria out of the house is like letting a psycho dog off a leash. You look away for a second, you lose her for the whole day.

Before she knew it, Kalyani was dragging Aria down the street by her arm, making sure she didn't escape. Thankfully, an ice cream truck had parked a few blocks away, so Kalyani was sure they were safe. The line was nonexistent, so they stepped right up. The man inside looked friendly, with black curly hair and light green eyes. "What flavor?" he queried.

Kalyani turned back to make sure her twin was with her, and replied, "One Oreo and a mint chocolate chip- one scoop each and both in cones, please."

"But-" Aria started.

She turned back and whispered, "You aren't going on another sugar high. Do you remember what happened last time?"

Aria winced. Even for her, that was a very traumatizing memory. Lets just say it had something to do with fireworks, exploding strollers, and a long hike to the police station.

The man turned back to us, handing the cones over. "You new here?"

"Yep. I'm Kalyani and this is-"
