Kalyani
It was midnight. Midnight meant that in exactly 19 hours, she would be meeting Sarah Wesner. 19 seemed like a lot, but it wouldn't be once the time actually came. There was an option to back out, but Kalyani refused to play the coward. She owed her friends- and Aria.
There was still a plan to be formed though. How would she get Sarah to meet Roxanne? Wouldn't Roxanne just refuse? So, she was thinking on whether it would be wise to ring up Jacob and Evelyn, but they did it first.
Kalyani stared at the buzzing phone on video call. Somebody had made a whole video call with all 7 of them. She thought for a moment, then hit 'accept'.
The first faces that popped up- other than Aria- were Evelyn's and Jacob's. They were in their living room, and both looked apprehensive. "Hi Kalyani. Let's wait for the others," Evelyn was using her regular voice.
"Shh, my parents are sleeping."
"Oh, sorry," she whispered.
Next to pick up was Wilder, who was stuffing what Kalyani thought looked like tamales into his mouth. He had a glass of orange juice next to them. "Hi, I'll talk in a bit- need to finish these before Malia gets home." He and Evelyn both made a face at the exact same time, which seemed to be their code for Malia.
Leo popped up almost as soon as he said the last words. His glasses were askew and he was clearly in his bedroom. "Uh, guys. What do you want- not in a rude way- it's like 12 AM."
"I don't know- someone called me. Who was it?" Kalyani asked.
"It was me," said Evelyn. "We need to talk about tomor- today. If Sarah really does come, how do we get her to meet Roxanne? How do we even summon Roxanne?"
"Well, if we're going to be summoning spirits now," remarked Wilder, who was done eating and running up the steps, "I'm definitely out."
Leo let out a massive yawn. "By the way, Arlo's here."
And yes, she was, also rocking major messy-hair. She rubbed her eyes, said nothing, and glared. Apparently she thought the six of them were beyond unworthy of her words. Kalyani smiled innocently at her.
"Kalyani? Plan?" asked Aria.
"Hold up," Jacob interjected. "There's also someone else who knows about these things. So far we've gotten the information, but I know how we can summon Roxanne- sorry Wilder- because I've done it before."
"You've summoned Roxanne?" Leo gaped.
"Of course not! I mean I can get spirits to talk to us. A year after our mom died, Evelyn and I moved here and thanks to mom's spirit, we learned she was killed by our psycho killer foster dad- who is by the way buried in our front yard and you've stepped on his grave multiple times!" Jacob finished.
Kalyani shuddered. It was really disrespectful to step on someone's grave. The dead could be angered. But her mind mostly dwelled on the rest. "Wait, that's why you opened your website! Because you can talk to ghosts too! How come we didn't know?"
Evelyn twisted a strand of hair in her fingers. "Because there usually isn't anyone else who can. Kalyani is our exception, and according to Roxanne, a lot of the rest of you can too. I knew about Leo, but..."
"But that's not the point- so Jacob can talk to spirits if they show themselves, right?" Kalyani persisted.
"No. I can make spirits that are hiding themselves appear to us. But I can only do it if the spirit is in the room or place- or house."
