I am woken from my slumber by a loud ringing, groaning I raise my head. "Come on Kim, let's go to the park!" A soft voice suggests from next to me. 'School must be over.' Turning my head, I am met with the deep brown eyes that belong to my best and only friend, Sophie. 

I've been friends with her since we were babies, as our moms were friends. Along with her brown eyes Sophie has fair skin and blond hair that reaches her midback. I've always wished I was as beautiful as her. My green eyes are dull in comparison to hers. 

"Hello, Earth to Kim." I come back to focus to a hand waving in front of my face. "H-huh! Sorry 'bout that, I was lost in thought." I rub my neck embarrassed. "But yeah, let's go to the park." I say, grinning as I shove my binder into my messenger bag.

After throwing on my jacket, scarf, beanie, and bag, we leave the empty classroom. Walking down the hallway, we successfully avoided anyone who would try to interact with us. 

"Okay, do you want to get some Timmies first or just hit the park?" I ask. Sophie pauses for a moment before responding. "I could use a snack...but I don't have any money on me" She mutters the last part, but I still heard. 

"Don't worry. I got'chu bestie!" I exclaim fishing my wallet from my pocket. "Let's go!" I grab her hand dragging her behind me.

"I'd like a Triple Triple, a large frozen hot chocolate, a 4-cheese beagle with cream cheese, a honey curler, and two maple dipped donuts." 

Once we get our food and I pay, we start walking to the park. "Here's your drink and donut." I say handing Sophie her coffee and one of the maple donuts.

"Did you really get yourself a large drink, a beagle, and two donuts?" She raised an eyebrow at me. Gasping in mock offence, I say. "I am a growing young lady; I need to eat!" Sighing, she shakes her head. 

Once we reach the park, we take a seat under a tree to eat and relax. After Sophie finished her donut, she lays her head in my lap as I play with her hair. "How are things with Keira?" I ask between bites.

"O-oh, she got a girlfriend before I could ask her out." She answers sadly. "Well, you are too good for her anyway!" I exclaim. 

"How's your mother doing?" Sophie asks hesitantly. You see, my mom had been admitted to the hospital by my father after she had been 'robbed and beaten'. He had said that he had 'found' her in our living room bloody and unconscious. "From what my father told me; a rib may have punctured her lung. But she is stable at the moment." I explain. "How are your parents?"

"They've been arguing more, and Dad started drinking every night." I shove my donut into my mouth to avoid any awkwardness. Still chewing my donut, I pull and hug her to my chest. Petting her hair, I softly sing a song called 'Come Little Children'. 

"Come little children
I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment
Come little children
The time's come to play
Here in my garden of shadows
Oooh-oooh,"

A small bird lands on my shoulder. Turning my head, still singing, I see the black-capped chickadee I had named Chip. He starts to match my tone as I continue singing.

"Follow sweet children
I'll show thee the way
Through all the pain and the sorrows
Weep not poor children
For life is this way
Murdering beauty and passions
Oooh-oooh,"

"Hush now dear children, it must be this way
Too weary of life and deceptions
Rest now my children
For soon we'll away
Into the calm and the quiet

Oooh-oooh (Aaah-aaah)
Oooh-oooh (Aaah-aaah)"

A small grows on my face as a gentle breeze blows by. Glancing down I see that Sophie had fallen asleep.

"Come little children
I'll take thee away
Into a land of enchantment

The time's come to play
Here in my garden of shadows
Oooh-oooh (Oooh-oooh)
Oooh-oooh (La-la-la-la)"

As I finish the song, I lay my head back onto the tree I am leaning against and close my eyes. I feel Chip cuddle into my neck as I start to doze off.

That is until I get a sudden bad feeling. Jumping to my feet, my eye snap open. Knocking my poor sleeping friend and bird onto the ground. Eyes darting around I see a child running to get a ball that had bounced onto the road. The thing that is concerning about that is the black truck going far over the speed limit with the driver on their phone. 

Without thinking I run after the child. "Kim, where are you going?!" Sophie asks startled and frantic as she is still half-sleep. 

"KID MOVE!" I shout, hoping they will understand. But they only tilt their head at me confused 'Dammit!' I think as I notice the truck almost at the kid. I jump at the kid, hugging them as I shield them with my body. The truck collides with my back making me scream out in pain and vision turn black as I fall to the ground still hugging the kid as they cry.

"KIM!"

"OWEN!"

"S-shhh... I- it's okay." I struggle to say, trying to comfort the child. 

I hear a car door open before a masculine voice exclaims. "Oh god! I'm so sorry!"

As my hearing weakens, I hear cries, shouts, and arguing. The child I assume to be Owen is pulled from my arms as my head is lifted into someone's lap. Opening my eyes, I am met with deep tearful brown eyes. "K-kim you idiot!" Sophie shouts through sobs. Chip lands on my forehead and looks into my eye, chirping softly. 

As I go to speak, I stop at the taste of iron. My breathing grows heavy and as I loose feeling in my body, no longer having to suffer the pain that was shooting through it. 

My eyelids grow heavy, I struggle to stay awake. "Kim, y-you have t-to stay with me!" 

The last thing I hear is sirens in the distance. Then I am met with peaceful, cold darkness. I feel weightless, floating freely. Closing my eyes, I smile.
