6. Starting to Hunt

Maya POV

Sam managed to persuade me to come down after a bit, and face what I’d been told. When I walked back inside, I was swiftly greeted with a bear hug from Uncle Bobby.

‘Hey, Uncle Bobby,’ I smiled. ‘I’m okay.’

‘Maya?’ I heard Cas behind me.

‘Yeah, Cassie, what’s up?’ I asked. It wasn’t really his fault, so I wasn’t going to hold it against him. I could see Sam and Dean behind him, and they didn’t look particularly happy.

‘You might need to sit down for this,’ he told me, as he started undoing his belt.

‘Uh… Cas?’ I laughed nervously. ‘What are you doing?’

‘I need to look at Is- your soul, to see if it is truly the one the angels are searching for,’ he said, and suddenly the belt made sense.

‘Let me guess, it’s going to hurt?’ I asked, looking at their faces. Bingo.

‘Okay, go ahead, Cassie,’ I breathed out, taking the belt and biting down on it. A millisecond before the pain registered throughout my body, I felt two different hands take each of mine.

My muffled screams filled the house as it felt like I was being ripped apart from the inside out. Actually, looking down at Cas’ hand, it kind of looked like it too.

After what felt like way too long, the pain subsided, and I felt the wet saltiness on my cheeks where I’d unknowingly been crying.

‘So, what’s the diagnosis?’ I joked, feeling sleepy all over again.

‘You have Isda’s soul inside of you, which means you are the one the angels are looking for, and you will quickly be developing angel like powers,’ Cas said.

And there I was thinking everything would be fine.

‘So, what, I just change my name and go hunting?’ I asked, not meaning it.

‘Actually… we decided that would be best,’ Uncle Bobby said.

‘You’re serious?’ I asked, getting excited. ‘You’re going to let me hunt?!'
