You looked up unhappily at the pair birds as they flew overhead. You found yourself growing envious of them. They were free to do whatever their hearts’ desired. You wished that you could be as free as these two birds were. Freedom to travel the whole galaxy without a care or worry. Freedom from the eyes of thousands on you and live your life the way you want to live it.
Freedom to choose who you love for the rest of your life.
You watched as the birds became tiny black dots in the gray, cloudy sky. You let out a small bitter laugh. How ironic it was that you were the one stuck in a cage while the birds were free to soar the skies. You remained on the small platform shaped rock as the waves crashed recklessly against it, signs that a storm was surely on its way.
"If it were up to me, I'd take all of this away from you and give you the entire galaxy to choose from."
You smiled. "It'd be pointless."
His eyebrows pulled together. "What do you mean?"
"Give me the entire galaxy or give me nothing at all," you said, staring at the rolling waves ahead of you. The breeze blew and the saltwater stuck to your hair in cold droplets. "None of it would matter. I'd want you, anyway."
The only response came through the crashing of a wave against a rock, and the warmth of his bare hand wrapping around yours. The moment was safe and secure, with the grip of your knight to ground you to it. Everything was rocky. Everything was wrong. But he was whole and perfect and everything you could have asked the galaxy for, but at the same time he was everything you were not allowed to have.
You loved him anyway.
