When Ryan arrived at Damon's, Damon persuaded Ryan to drive to High Cliff State Park. Ryan's heart sank, thinking that doing drugs would be easier in the vastly wooded area.
And when Damon said they should go hiking through the Redbird trail, Ryan tried to refuse. Damon begged and pleaded. Ryan sighed, and followed his friend in the woods.
The trek was through towering trees that hadn't grown leaves quite yet. As the two deviated from the main trail, they were catching up on things. Damon had told Ryan he hadn't touched Marijuana in three months. He didn't see what the big deal was. Eventually, they were going to legalize it in Wisconsin anyways.
As Damon explained, they hiked footpaths that rode the lip of a small cliff. Ryan discovered a passage, although a difficult hike. Making a tricky descent down the rock face, he tromped towards the sound of a trickling spring below. Damon followed.
As they searched for the spring, Ryan argued that Marijuana was still a drug and Damon barely turned 16. Damon admitted that Ryan was right, promising he wouldn't touch it while he was underage . Ryan fumed to himself, while Damon alluded that, indeed, when he did reach the right age, he was going to smoke it.
"Well it's your brain, you want to fry it, that's your prerogative." Ryan grumbled, as he realized Damon was no longer walking beside him.
Damon's tall and lanky frame stood in the middle of the forest. His long, straight, shoulder length hair danced from a slight wind, breezily cutting through the trees. Damon's favorite teacher had always called him 'Edge' for two reason's. The first reason, Damon, like Ryan, was very thin, although about four inches taller. Mr. Boggs had always commented that he could cut through the wind like a long blade. The other reason was that Damon, although severely scatter brained at times, was the sharpest mind Mr. Boggs had ever met.
Usually, Damon wore a novelty T, mostly Ironic darker themed stuff. Today, he wore an undersized black hoodie, with jeans that barely reached his ankles. His dangling bangs slightly covered his face and brown eyes. Ryan saw a devilish grin behind the dark locks, as his friend surmised the forest before him. Ryan followed Damon's stare. Confused. Ahead of Damon, as he looked off towards the left, were only trees
"Hey what are you?" Ryan began to ask.
But before he could question Damon's unprovoked grin, which had become a menacing smile, Damon pulled back the right sleeve of his hoodie to reveal an apple watch. He brought his left hand to the watch and said, "Check this out!"
Suddenly, a thin red beam shot from the watch. He swept his arm, about eighteen inches to the side, and the beam sliced right through ten trees. The trees had been aligned behind each other, or only slightly offset. The next thing Ryan knew, timbers were crashing to the ground.
Ryan froze with awe and terror as he watched the towering ash pick up speed as they neared the earth. Shaking the ground, branches broke when the wood spires abruptly met the leaf matted forest floor. It was like watching Damon cutting down the statue of Vince Lombardi in front of Lambeau Field."No way that just happened!" Ryan said aghast.
Damon let out a crazed chuckle. "Indeed, it did sir!"
"Man! You just chopped down ten trees in a State Park!"
"Relax, There's no way there going to tie that to me. It's not like we're carrying chainsaws or anything. All I have on me is a watch. They'll never suspect that."
"Yeah, but Damon, you can't do that. It's a State Park! They're trying to preserve nature here. You know, so people can enjoy it."
"Man Ryan, you're such a boy scout!"
"Don't ever do that again".
"Okay, no more trees will get cut down, ever, especially in a State Park. Admit it though, that was pretty cool."
"Actually that was totally Awesome! But let's get out of here before we get in trouble." They turned back and headed towards the main trail.
As they did, Ryan started to ask, "So how the heck did you...."
Damon cut him off. "Wait before you say anything, I want to show you the second invention. It's just as cool!
