The agents played a few games and then headed towards the Ramp, arriving around 4:45. As they approached the Four Runner, Damon was tinkering under the hood.
"Hey Damon," Ryan said.
"Man...are you sure you have to use the Four Runner tomorrow? I could use another day."
"What?!" Ryan, considering his task tomorrow, was aghast.
A gigantic smile erupted under Damon's brown locks. "I'm just kidding. Actually, I'm putting the final touches on right....now."
"Cool"
"While you're waiting, download the app from the App Store."
"I already did."
"So...did you guess what I'm up to then?"
"I can honestly say that I don't have a clue, Damon."
Under the shoulder length hair, Damon's slender face gleamed with pride, as he was still hunched over the engine of the SUV. "You're going to love it. And being who you are, and what you may need in the future, yes, it has a practical application."
"You're not going to tell me, are you?"
"No..But you'll love this surprise."
Damon finished up and slammed the hood back into place. As he looked up, he was startled to see Mai standing next to Ryan.
The lanky teenager hastily removed the dangling strands from his face, as if they were improper to have hanging there.
Mai gleefully laughed at Damon's awkwardness.
"Who's this." Damon looked at Mai, trying to hide a smile that appeared determined to reach his face- no matter how hard he fought it.
"This is my partner, Mai Lee."
Damon appraised the Asian girl's face, and then muttered under his breath. "Man, you're lucky."
"So, are you going to show us what this thing can do?" Mai asked with a broad smile.
Damon jolted slighty, as if being mildly shocked back into his original thought process. "Oh yes, you two hop in the front seats. I'll hang in the back. Ryan, break out your phone."
Ryan grabbed his phone from his back pants pocket and found the app. He also fished for his keys in a front pants pocket.
"You won't need your keys."
Ryan blinked a couple of times, suddenly realizing what this app could really do. "You've got to be kidding."
"Nope, I've been trying to keep this one to myself. It's actually quite cool."
They all hopped in the car, and Damon started talking. "First of all, Tesla has nothing on this car, well except their cars are electric and this runs off of gas. But really, this thing has a self driving mode. Just turn it on using the app, and tell it where to go."
Mai responded, "That's awesome."
"There's more." Damon proudly chimed, "Ryan, start the car by using the APP."
Ryan started the engine by simply tapping on engine start. When he did, the black part of the screen displayed what was in front of the car.
"Now, on the bottom, there should be a small Icon that says shift."
"Right." Ryan said.
"Push it." Damon softly commanded.
Ryan did, and saw the same letters as he would on a shifter. "Say no more," He said. "I think I got this."
An excited cackle burst from Damon. "Have at'er my friend!"
Ryan tapped the R Icon, the top half of the screen displayed what was behind the vehicle."If you hold the finger at the very top of the screen, you can rotate the camera. That way you can tell if anything is coming.
Ryan played with the screen. "How do I steer?"
Use the touch screen.
Ryan released the brake with his phone. He swiped the top of the screen to make sure nothing was approaching, and then used the touch screen to control the car.
He continued to drive on the ramp. Had a policeman seen him driving, Ryan would have surely received a ticket for texting and driving. His head was buried in his phone as the Four runner ascended and descended through the garage. Ryan took one run at high speed, to see if he could control the vehicle while driving fast. It was no problem.
Damon explained that everything could be used when remotely driving the car. "Missles, grappling hook, fog, oil slick, anything," He finished exuberantly.
"What about flying mode?"
"You bet. And that took a long time to integrate, so I hope it comes in handy."
Mai and Ryan thought about the Damaging Media Footage, "Not me." They said in unison.
