45As the party unfolded, Ryan didn't know if he was relieved or disturbed. His friends weren't talking about Esmeralda anymore, yet, what they were saying scared him. There were some very powerful minds in this world, his was one of them. He'd be a target for some evil person who sought to wreak havoc on the world.
He shook off those feelings as he surveyed his mild mannered partner, apparently she wasn't phased by the talk. Here face lit up like it was Christmas.
"Hey guys, lets play intervention." Mai set her plate on an end table, and looked towards the large window, gasping as she did.
Chloe exploded. "No! That could get all of us expelled."
"Lighten up sweet stuff, its really not going to hurt anyone." Gunner scoffed.
Chloe stood in place, as everybody else set their empty plates down and huddled around the window. Shandra opened a pane of the large window, allowing a cool spring breeze in the apartment. Phong rubbed his palms together, as a mischievous grin crept over his face. "Two young lovers."
Chloe had a look of worry, "C'mon you guys don't do this."
Shandra commanded "Mai, kill the lights."
Mai flipped the light switch on the wall, then giggled.
Ryan didn't know what intervention was, nor could he believe his partner would risk getting kicked out of school. "Seriously," he caught Mai's eyes, "you actually break rules."
She screwed up her face dismissively, "It's a minor rule, and nobody is going to know we did this."
"Chloe could say something," Ryan said.
"It's wrong to do," Chloe said from a distance, "but I'm not going to say anything."
"Gee, you're a true friend Chloe," Shandra disdainfully groaned.
Ryan was annoyed with Shandra's sarcasm. "She's supposed to report things like that. We're kind of putting her in a rough spot."
"Boy, you don't even know what we're going to do." Shandra said.
"You're right, I don't. What is intervention?"
Phong let out a laugh that was almost silent, "Watch and learn."
"Uh..okay."
"Everybody," Gunner announced in a whisper, "sense the conversation."
Ryan, who was practically in tune almost always, particularly focused on two teens sitting on a bench. He sensed the aura of a young man.
"What does your dad think of me?"
A soft female presence stole through Ryan's mind.
"He doesn't like the music you listen to, but that's ok. There was a pause in which neither spoke or thought anything. "He says you're a hard worker."
"MMM" 'That's gotta count for something.'
The young lady returned the question. '"What do your parents think of me?" 'He hasn't even tried to kiss me. I don't think he's going to.'
"They like you, maybe more than me"
'He's not going to kiss me, he really doesn't like me.'
Gunner, who was squatting near the window, so everyone could see the couple, turned towards Ryan and spoke in a whisper, "This is when the intervention comes in."
"You want to kiss her right?" Ryan could sense it was Gunnner sending out the thoughts.
'I do! I open mouth kiss my teddy bear thinking of her for crying out loud.'
Phong chuckled, then yelled like he was cheering on his favorite team, "Open mouth kiss her like she was your poor teddy bear, buddy!"
"What, Who was that?" The girl seemed startled.
"I don't know, but that was weird." Ryan could sense shakiness in the boys voice, and immediately felt bad.
"Why?"
"Uhh, nevermind."
"Do you want to kiss me?" The girls thoughts were strong, Ryan could sense them.
"uhh, I guess."
"am I ruining the mood by talking about it?"
"Not really, I just..."
"Just what?"
The boy seemed frantic. 'Think, she'll think I'm lame if she knew I never kissed a girl before.'"First time for everything!" Shandra yelled towards the two.
The boy's essence seemed very shaken."OK that's really weird."
"It's your first time?"
"Uhh..no."
"It is, I can see it on your face,"
'I can't compete with Brayden. They dated, he probably kissed her really well.'
Mai, with a grin, eagerly chimed. "I got this." Ryan could then sense Mai's thoughts, "Wonder if he'll kiss as well as Brayden?"
Once again, the girl's thoughts were very strong. "Anything's better than that sloppy, slow tongued, heavy breathing disaster."
"Don't worry about Brayden, he's a real sloppy kisser!" Ryan was surprised at just how loud Mai yelled. She usually spoke so softly.
"Alright, did you put someone up to this?"
"No, but she's right, he's a horrible kisser. Is that what you're afraid of?"
"Actually, kind of."
"Don't worry." The girl assured.
"So..."
'So" Ryan could actually sense the girl's anticipation.
"People are watching us."
"I really don't care."
Abruptly, the sillouhette of the boy bent over and kissed the girl. Their heads interlocked for a long time.
"Awesome"
"He's a heck of a lot better than Brayden."
Everyone in Shandra's apartment, with the exception of Chloe, cheered. "I bet your teddy bear doesn't have a tongue like that!" Shandra yelled.
"Shandra!" Mai said in admonishment and disgust.
"What? The boy liked the kiss!"
The two sillouhettes disengaged but pressed their foreheads together, as they laughed.
"Have a good night!" Gunner yelled and then closed the window.
Shandra pulled the curtains, as Mai Lee turned the lights back on. "Well that's that. What should we do now?"
