Evan threw a year end party in the office the next Friday. Domy said it's the first time that it happened since their boss normally considered dine out before Christmas then gift giving. The guy smirked at Mari the moment a karaoke machine wheeled in the middle of the office. Everyone squealed seeing that square box while she felt there's panic attack coming in.
Unlimited alcohol flowed and pizza boxes keeps on coming and discarding in front of them with some finger foods courtesy of their famous products
"So Carl's going?" She opened when Evan joined her in leaning on the wall glasses beside his office while their errand boy sing and dance in front of the karaoke. They both have beer on their hands. Most of the beers are lights actually as Evan considered his female employees.
Evan side looked at her frowning, "Don't dare of thinking about hooking up with him"
"I'm not," she quickly defended, shaking her head. "I'm just curious how can he leave a busy kitchen for months"
Evan gave her a side look. Probably observing if she's saying the truth. The guy shrugged, "First thing to do if you own that kind of kitchen, is to find a respective and disciplined chef under you. Carl doesn't have that problem. People would die to have a slot in his kitchen and work for him."
"But why do he needs to go abroad?" She asked again.
"That's the thing with the chef," Evan answered. "At start of their career if they want to cook profesionally, to know techniques and stuff they have to train to a lot of kitchens. But all those shit won't stop there. They still need constant training"
"Carl just lucky enough to have a deep pocket that's why he had a chance on getting out of this country to train at a very young age," Evan continued. "He's a Thomas, you know that Crown Development? That's his father's. Very humble man though"
She nodded, "I'm surprise he didn't work under his father."
"Christine and Carl hates the idea of having a position because they are COO." He sided towards her, "You know what that means?"
"Of course," she sniggered proudly, "Child Of Owner…."
He tried messing up her hair as his right hand flew towards her hair but she quickly ward that off with her hands. The guy laughed, "It means they want to be self made."
She tilted her head, "How did you two met?"
He chuckled, "You mean how a middle class like me met a son of billionaire?"
"Nope," she shook her head, "Me and Prim we're not really that close during primary school but became close during college days because we felt we only have each other in the adult school. There's always a good story between people coming together"
"College mates just that," Evan finally replied.
"I know you prepared for chef duties too. What happened?"
"You know how hard to be in a foreign kitchen?" Evan asked instead that she shook her head. "There's a kitchen, both me and Carl accepted there. We are the only foreigner there and they all Italian cooks. They might've felt like, "Wait a minute I'm Italian, been cooking like these since kid and here are bunch of young weirdos trying to outcook us" so there's some bullying happened, giving us too many work and cleaning cutlery more than usual. That's how hard it is."
She gasped, "That always happened?"
"Not everytime, Japan seems good for both of us. But most of the time it happened," Evan said. "You know bullying and shouting are part of the training too. It prepares you to create something in a crunch time while your boss shouting at you and other dudes looking at you through their noses."
